1 Corinthians 3:16

3:16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

1 Corinthians 5:6

5:6 Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast affects the whole batch of dough?

1 Corinthians 12:2

12:2 You know that when you were pagans you were often led astray by speechless idols, however you were led.

sn You are God’s temple refers here to the church, since the pronoun you is plural in the Greek text. (In 6:19 the same imagery is used in a different context to refer to the individual believer.)

sn In this passage (5:6-8) yeast represents the presence of evil within the church, specifically the immoral person described in 5:1-5 and mentioned again in 5:13.

tn Grk “a little yeast leavens.”
