• [Psa 144:1] O God, The Strength Of Those Who War

  O God, the Strength of those who war, The Hope of those who wait, Be with our sons gone forth to fight, And those who keep the gate. Give to our hosts in battle’s hour Firm hearts and courage high, Thy comfort give to those who fall, Thy peace to those who die. Breathe on our land the spirit calm Which faith in right bestows, And in the hours of dark suspense A faith which stronger grows. In Thee alone we place our hope, Thou Keeper of the just, And Thou, through fight and fire and fears Wilt justify our trust. Thy ways are wonderful, O God, Who makest wars to cease: O let this be the final war That ushers in Thy peace.

• [Psa 144:3] Now Praise We Great And Famous Men

  Now praise we great and famous men, The fathers named in story; And praise the Lord, who now as then Reveals in man His glory. Praise we the wise and brave and strong, Who graced their generation, Who helped the right, and fought the wrong, And made our folk a nation. Praise we the great of heart and mind, The singers sweetly gifted, Whose music like a mighty wind The souls of men uplifted. Praise we the peaceful men of skill, Who builded homes of beauty, And, rich in art, made richer still The brotherhood of duty. Praise we the glorious names we know, And they whose names have perished, Lost, in the haze of long ago, In silent love be cherished. In peace their sacred ashes rest, Fulfilled their day’s endeavor; They blessed the earth, and they are blessed Of God and man forever.

  To Thee, Eternal Soul, be praise! Who, from of old to our own days, Through souls of saints and prophets, Lord, Hast sent Thy light, Thy love, Thy Word. We thank Thee for each mighty one Through whom Thy living light hath shone; And for each humble soul and sweet That lights to heaven our wandering feet. We thank Thee for the love divine Made real in every saint of Thine; That boundless love itself that gives In service to each soul that lives. We thank Thee for the Word of might Thy Spirit spake in darkest night. Spake through the trumpet voices loud Of prophets at Thy throne who bowed. Eternal Soul, our souls keep pure, That like Thy saints we may endure; Forever through Thy servants, Lord, Send Thou Thy light, Thy love, Thy Word.

  Lord, while for all mankind we pray, Of every clime and coast, O hear us for our native land, The land we love the most. O guard our shores from every foe; With peace our borders bless; With prosperous times our cities crown, Our fields with plenteousness. Unite us in the sacred love Of knowledge, truth, and Thee; And let our hills and valleys shout The songs of liberty. Lord of the nations, thus to Thee Our country we commend; Be Thou her Refuge and her Trust Her everlasting Friend.

  O people blest, whose sons in youth, In sturdy strength and noble truth, Like plants in vigor spring; Whose daughters fair, a queenly race, Are like the cornerstones that grace The palace of a king, The palace of a king. O people blest, when flock and field Their rich, abundant increase yield, And blessings multiply; When plenty all thy children share, And no invading foe is there, And no distressful cry, And no distressful cry. O happy people, favored land, To whom the Lord with liberal hand Has thus His goodness shown; Yea, surely is that people blest By whom Jehovah is confessed To be their God alone, To be their God alone.
