Hebrews 4:14--10:18
-
[Heb 4:14] Atoning Work Is Done, The
The atoning work is done,
The Victim’s blood is shed;
And Jesus now is gone
His people’s cause to plead:
He stands in Heaven their great High Priest,
And bears their names upon His breast.He sprinkles with His blood
The mercy-seat above;
For justice had withstood
The purposes of love:
But justice now objects no more,
And mercy yields her boundless store.No temple made with hands
His place of service is;
In Heaven itself He stands,
A heavenly priesthood His:
In Him the shadows of the law
Are all fulfilled, and now withdraw.And though awhile He be
Hid from the eyes of men,
His people look to see
Their great High Priest again:
In brightest glory He will come,
And take His waiting people home.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:14] Great High Priest, We See Thee Stooping
Great High Priest, we see Thee stooping,
With our names upon Thy breast,
In the garden groaning, drooping,
To the ground with sorrows pressed.
Weeping angels stand confounded,
To behold their Maker thus,
And shall we remain unwounded,
When we know ’twas all for us?On the cross Thy body broken,
Cancels every penalty;
Tempted souls produce this token
All demands to satisfy.
All is finished; do not doubt it,
But believe your dying Lord;
Never reason more about it,
Only take Him at His Word.Come, behold your Savior bleeding,
Streams of mercy from Him flow,
Whilst before His Father pleading
For those men who wrought His woe.
Lo, He cried, “Father, forgive them,
Though they do My life pursue,
I am willing to receive them,
For they know not what they do.”Come, Thou everlasting Spirit,
Bring to every thankful mind
All the Savior’s dying merit,
All His suffering for mankind.
True recorder of His passion,
Now Thy living fire impart,
Now reveal Thy great salvation,
Preach His Gospel to our heart.Lord, we fain would trust Thee solely;
’Twas for us Thy blood was spilt;
Gracious Savior, take us wholly,
Take and make us what Thou wilt.
Grant us now Thy heav’nly blessing,
Let Thy love our songs employ;
Then we’ll find Thy peace possessing,
In Thy service all our joy.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:14] With Joy We Meditate The Grace
With joy we meditate the grace
Of our High Priest above;
His heart is made of tenderness,
His bowels melt with love.Touched with a sympathy within,
He knows our feeble frame;
He knows what sore temptations mean,
For He has felt the same.But spotless, innocent, and pure,
The great Redeemer stood,
While Satan’s fiery darts He bore,
And did resist to blood.He in the days of feeble flesh
Poured out His cries and tears,
And in His measure feels afresh
What every member bears.He’ll never quench the smoking flax,
But raise it to a flame;
The bruisèd reed He never breaks,
Nor scorns the meanest name.Then let our humble faith address
His mercy and His power;
We shall obtain delivering grace
In the distressing hour.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:15] There Is No Sorrow, Lord, Too Light
There is no sorrow, Lord, too light
To bring in prayer to Thee;
There is no anxious care too slight
To wake Thy sympathy.Thou, who hast trod the thorny road,
Wilt share each small distress;
The love, which bore the greater load,
Will not refuse the less.There is no secret sigh we breathe,
But meets Thine ear divine;
And every cross grows light beneath
The shadow, Lord, of Thine.Life’s ills without, sin’s strife within,
The heart would overflow,
But for that love which died for sin,
That love which wept with woe.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:15] Wonders Of Redeeming Love, The
The wonders of redeeming love
Our highest thoughts exceed;
The Son of God comes from above
For sinful man to bleed.He gives Himself, His life, His all,
A sinless sacrifice,
For man He drains the cup of gall,
For man the Victim dies.And now before His Father’s face
His precious blood He pleads;
For those who seek the throne of grace,
His love still intercedes.He knows the frailties of our frame,
For He has borne our grief;
Our great High Priest once felt the same,
And He can send relief.His love will not be satisfied,
Till He in glory sees
The faithful ones for whom He died
From sin forever free.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:16] Behold The Throne Of Grace
Behold the throne of grace,
The promise calls us near,
There Jesus shows a smiling face
And waits to answer prayer.That rich atoning blood,
Which sprinkled round we see,
Provides for those who come to God
An all prevailing plea.My soul ask what thou wilt,
Thou canst not be too bold;
Since His own blood for thee He spilt,
What else can He withhold.Beyond thy utmost wants
His love and pow’r can bless;
To praying souls He always grants,
More than they can express.Since ’tis the Lord’s command,
My mouth I open wide;
Lord open Thou Thy bounteous hand,
That I may be supplied.Thine image, Lord, bestow,
Thy presence and Thy love;
I ask to serve Thee here below,
And reign with Thee above.Teach me to live by faith,
Conform my will to Thine;
Let me victorious be in death,
And then in glory shine.If Thou these blessings give,
And wilt my portion be;
Cheerful the world’s poor toys I leave,
To them who know not Thee.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:16] Behold We Come, Dear Lord, To Thee
Behold we come, dear Lord, to Thee,
And bow before Thy throne;
We come to offer on our knee
Our vows to Thee alone.Whate’er we have, whate’er we are,
Thy bounty freely gave;
Thou dost here in mercy spare,
And wilt hereafter save.Come then, my soul, bring all thy powers,
And grieve thou hast no more;
Bring every day thy choicest hours,
And thy great God adore.But, above all, prepare thy heart,
On this His own blest day;
In its sweet task to bear thy part,
And sing, and love, and pray.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:16] Come Boldly To The Throne Of Grace
Come, ye who from your hearts believe
That Jesus answers prayer,
Come boldly to a throne of grace
And claim His promise there,
That, if His love in us abide
And we in Him are one,
Whatever in His Name we ask
It surely will be done.Refrain
Come lovingly and trustingly,
Take Jesus at His Word,
For He has said, “the prayer of faith
Was never yet unheard.”If in the “fountain filled with blood”
Our sins are washed away
Come boldly to a throne of grace,
Rejoicing that we may
Come boldly to a throne of grace,
And bless the Lord our King—
Who fills our grateful hearts with praise,
And tunes our tongues to sing.Refrain
From every precious, golden hour
We spend in fervent prayer,
We gather strength from day to day
For each returning care;
And, while with true, believing hearts
We bow before His throne,
There’s not a promise He has made
But we may call our own.Refrain

[Heb 4:16] I Need Thee Every Hour
I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.Refrain
I need Thee, O I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
O bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh.Refrain
I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.Refrain
I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.Refrain
I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessèd Son.Refrain

[Heb 4:16] They Who Seek The Throne Of Grace
They who seek the throne of grace,
Find that throne in every place;
If we live a life of prayer,
God is present everywhere.In our sickness or our health,
In our want or in our wealth,
If we look to God in prayer,
God is present everywhere.When our earthly comforts fail,
When the foes of life prevail,
’Tis the time for earnest prayer;
God is present everywhere.Then, my soul, in every strait
To thy Father come and wait;
He will answer every prayer;
God is present everywhere.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 5:7] Our Blessèd Savior Seven Times Spoke
Our blessèd Savior sev’n times spoke
When on the cross our sins He took
And died lest men should perish.
Let us His last and dying words
In our remembrance cherish.“Father, forgive these men; for, lo,
They truly know not what they do.”
So far His love extended.
Forgive us, Lord, for we, too, have
Through ignorance offended.Now to the contrite thief He cries:
“Thou, verily, in Paradise
Shall meet Me ere tomorrow.”
Lord, take us to Thy kingdom soon
Who linger here in sorrow.To weeping Mary, standing by,
“Behold thy Son,” now hear Him cry;
To John, “Behold thy mother.”
Provide, O Lord, for those we leave;
Let each befriend the other.The Savior’s fourth word was “I thirst.”
O mighty Prince of Life, Thy thirst
For us and our salvation
Is truly great; do help us, then,
That we escape damnation.The fifth, “My God, My God, O why
Forsake Me?” Hark, the awful cry!
Lord, Thou wast here forsaken
That we might be received on high;
Let this hope not be shaken.The sixth, when victory was won,
“’Tis finished!” for Thy work was done.
Grant, Lord, that, onward pressing,
We may the work Thou dost impose
Fulfill with Thine own blessing.The last, as woe and sufferings end,
“O God, My Father, I commend
Into Thy hands My Spirit.”
Be this, dear Lord, my dying wish;
O heavenly Father, hear it.Whoe’er, by sense of sin oppressed,
Upon these words his thoughts will rest,
He joy and hope obtaineth
And through God’s love and boundless grace
A peaceful conscience gaineth.O Jesus Christ, Thou Crucified,
Who hast for our offenses died,
Grant that we e’er may ponder
Thy wounds, Thy cross, Thy bitter death,
Both here below and yonder.source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 6:6] O God, Thy Righteousness We Own
O God, Thy righteousness we own;
Judgment is at Thy house begun!
With humble awe Thy rod we hear,
And guilty in Thy sight appear;
We cannot in Thy judgment stand,
But sink beneath Thy mighty hand.Our mouth as in the dust we lay,
And still for mercy, mercy pray;
Unworthy to behold Thy face,
Unfaithful stewards of Thy grace,
Our sin and wickedness we own,
And deeply for acceptance groan.We have not, Lord, Thy gifts improved,
But basely from Thy statutes roved,
And done Thy loving Spirit spite,
And sinned against the clearest light,
Brought back Thy agonizing pain,
And nailed Thee to Thy cross again.Yet do not drive us from Thy face,
A stiff-necked and hard-hearted race;
But oh! in tender mercy break
The iron sinew in our neck;
The softening power of love impart,
And melt the marble of our heart.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 6:12] Triumphs Of The Saints, The
The triumphs of the saints,
The toils they bravely bore,
The love that never faints,
Their glory evermore—
For these the Church today
Pours forth her joyous lay;
What victors wear so rich a bay?This clinging world of ill
Them and their works abhorred;
Its withering flowers still
They spurned with one accord;
They knew them short lived all,
How soon they fade and fall,
And followed, Jesu, at Thy call.What tongue may here declare,
Fancy or thought descry,
The joys Thou dost prepare
For these Thy saints on high?
Empurpled in the flood
Of their victorious blood,
They won the laurel from their God.O Lord most high, we pray,
Stretch forth Thy mighty arm
To put our sins away
And shelter us from harm;
O give Thy servants peace;
From guilt and pain release;
Our praise to Thee shall never cease.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 6:18] Hope Set Before You, The
Lay hold on the hope set before you,
And let not a moment be lost,
The Savior has purchased your ransom,
But think what a price it hath cost!Refrain
Lay hold on eternal salvation,
Lay hold on the gift of God’s only Son;
Lay hold on His infinite mercy,
Lay hold on the Mighty One!Lay hold on the hope set before you,
Of life that you now may receive,
If, gladly His mercy accepting,
You truly repent and believe.Refrain
Lay hold on the hope set before you,
Of joy that no mortal can speak;
It telleth of rest for the weary,
Through Jesus, the lowly and meek.Refrain
Lay hold on the hope set before you,
A hope that is steadfast and sure;
O haste to the blessèd Redeemer,
The loving, the perfect and pure.Refrain

[Heb 6:19] I Now Have Found For Hope Of Heaven
I now have found for hope of Heaven,
An anchor-ground that firm will hold;
’Twas through the cross of Jesus given,
By God appointed from of old;
A ground that shall enduring stay,
When earth and skies have passed away,
When earth and skies have passed away.’Tis God’s own mercy never ending;
Its measure all our thoughts exceeds;
While Jesus, too, His arms extending,
Whose heart for guilty sinners bleeds,
Now with compassion calls His foes
To flee from sin and endless woes,
To flee from sin and endless woes.This love’s a deep, our follies hiding;
The death of Christ, a matchless grace,
To life and peace our spirits guiding,
Where wrath no more shall find a place;
His blood for us is pleading still,
“Let mercy all its work fulfill,
Let mercy all its work fulfill!”Upon this ground I rest most firmly,
Long as the earth my dwelling prove;
And wish to serve my God and Savior,
Till, dying, I shall rise above,
And there, rejoicing, shall adore
Unbounded mercy evermore,
Unbounded mercy evermore.source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 6:19] I’ve Anchored In Jesus
Upon life’s boundless ocean where mighty billows roll,
I’ve fixed my hope in Jesus, blest anchor of my soul;
When trials fierce assail me as storms are gathering o’er,
I rest upon His mercy and trust Him more.Refrain
I’ve anchored in Jesus, the storms of life I’ll brave,
I’ve anchored in Jesus, I fear no wind or wave.
I’ve anchored in Jesus, for He hath power to save,
I’ve anchored to the Rock of Ages.He keeps my soul from evil and gives me blessèd peace,
His voice hath stilled the waters and bid their tumult cease;
My Pilot and Deliverer, to Him I all confide,
For always when I need Him, He’s at my side.Refrain
He is my Friend and Savior, in Him my anchor’s cast,
He drives away my sorrows and shields me from the blast;
By faith I’m looking upward beyond life’s troubled sea,
There I behold a haven prepared for me.Refrain

[Heb 6:19] My Anchor Holds
Though the angry surges roll
On my tempest driven soul,
I am peaceful, for I know,
Wildly though the winds may blow,
I’ve an anchor safe and sure,
That can evermore endure.Refrain
And it holds, my anchor holds:
Blow your wildest, then, O gale,
On my bark so small and frail;
By His grace I shall not fail,
For my anchor holds, my anchor holds.Mighty tides about me sweep,
Perils lurk within the deep,
Angry clouds o’ershade the sky,
And the tempest rises high;
Still I stand the tempest’s shock,
For my anchor grips the rock.Refrain
I can feel the anchor fast
As I meet each sudden blast,
And the cable, though unseen,
Bears the heavy strain between;
Through the storm I safely ride,
Till the turning of the tide.Refrain
Troubles almost ’whelm the soul;
Griefs like billows o’er me roll;
Tempters seek to lure astray;
Storms obscure the light of day:
But in Christ I can be bold,
I’ve an anchor that shall hold.Refrain

[Heb 6:19] Now I Have Found The Firm Foundation
Now I have found the firm foundation
Which holds mine anchor ever sure;
’Twas laid before the world’s creation
In Christ my Savior’s wounds secure;
Foundation which unmoved shall stay
When Heav’n and earth will pass away.It is that mercy never ending
Which human wisdom far transcends,
Of Him Who, loving arms extending,
To wretched sinners condescends;
Whose heart with pity still doth break
Whether we seek Him or forsake.Our ruin God hath not intended,
For our salvation He hath yearned;
For this His Son to earth descended
And then to Heav’n again returned;
For this so patient evermore
He knocketh at our heart’s closed door.O depth of love, to me revealing
The sea where my sins disappear!
In Christ my wounds find perfect healing,
There is no condemnation here;
For Jesus’ blood through earth and skies
Forever “Mercy! Mercy!” cries.I never will forget this crying;
In faith I’ll trust it all my days,
And when o’er all my sins I’m sighing,
Into the Father’s heart I’ll gaze;
For there is always to be found
Free mercy without end and bound.Though I be robbed of every pleasure
That makes my soul and body glad
And be deprived of earthly treasure
And be forsaken, lone, and sad,
Though my desire for help seem vain,
His mercy shall with me remain.Though earthly trials should oppress me
And cares from day to day increase;
Though earth’s vain things should sore distress me
And rob me of my Savior’s peace;
Though I be brought down to the dust,
Still in His mercy I will trust.When all my deeds I am reviewing,
The deeds that I admire the most,
I find in all my thought and doing
That there is naught whereof to boast.
Yet this sweet comfort shall abide—
In mercy I can still confide.Let mercy cause me to be willing
To bear my lot and not to fret.
While He my restless heart is stilling,
May I His mercy not forget!
Come weal, come woe, my heart to test,
His mercy is my only rest.I’ll stand upon this firm foundation
As long as I on earth remain;
This shall engage my meditation
While I the breath of life retain;
And then, when face to face with Thee,
I’ll sing of mercy, great and free.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 6:19] Now I Have Found The Ground Wherein
Now I have found the ground wherein
Sure my soul’s anchor may remain,
The wounds of Jesus, for my sin
Before the world’s foundation slain;
Whose mercy shall unshaken stay,
When Heaven and earth are fled away.Father, Thine everlasting grace
Our scanty thought surpasses far;
Thy heart still melts with tenderness,
Thy arms of love still open are,
Returning sinners to receive,
That mercy they may taste and live.O Love, Thou bottomless abyss,
My sins are swallowed up in Thee!
Covered is my unrighteousness,
Nor spot of guilt remains on me,
While Jesus’ blood, through earth and skies,
Mercy, free, boundless mercy, cries.By faith I plunge me in this sea,
Here is my hope, my joy, my rest;
Hither, when hell assails, I flee,
I look into my Savior’s breast;
Away, sad doubt, and anxious fear!
Mercy is all that’s written there.Though waves and storms go o’er my head,
Though strength, and health, and friends be gone,
Though joys be withered all and dead,
Though every comfort be withdrawn,
On this my steadfast soul relies,
Father, Thy mercy never dies.Fixed on this ground will I remain,
Though my heart fail, and flesh decay;
This anchor shall my soul sustain,
When earth’s foundations melt away;
Mercy’s full power I then shall prove,
Loved with an everlasting love.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 6:19] We Have An Anchor
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?Refrain
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.It is safely moored, ’twill the storm withstand,
For ’tis well secured by the Savior’s hand;
And the cables, passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy that blast, thro’ strength divine.Refrain
It will surely hold in the Straits of Fear—
When the breakers have told that the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o’erflow.Refrain
It will firmly hold in the Floods of Death—-
When the waters cold chill our latest breath,
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the Veil.Refrain
When our eyes behold through the gath’ring night
The city of gold, our harbor bright,
We shall anchor fast by the heav’nly shore,

[Heb 6:19] Whispering Hope
Soft as the voice of an angel,
Breathing a lesson unheard,
Hope with a gentle persuasion
Whispers her comforting word:
Wait till the darkness is over,
Wait till the tempest is done,
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
After the shower is gone.Refrain
Whispering hope, oh how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.If, in the dusk of the twilight,
Dim be the region afar,
Will not the deepening darkness
Brighten the glimmering star?
Then when the night is upon us,
Why should the heart sink away?
When the dark midnight is over,
Watch for the breaking of day.Refrain
Hope, as an anchor so steadfast,
Rends the dark veil for the soul,
Whither the Master has entered,
Robbing the grave of its goal.
Come then, O come, glad fruition,
Come to my sad weary heart;
Come, O Thou blest hope of glory,
Never, O never depart.Refrain

Warmth to give and pleasant glow,
On each tender flow’r below.Now the little birds arise,

[Heb 9:15] Jesus, In Thee Our Eyes Behold
Jesus, in Thee our eyes behold
A thousand glories more,
Than the rich gems and polished gold
The sons of Aaron wore.They first their own burnt offerings brought,
To purge themselves from sin;
Thy life was pure without a spot,
And all Thy nature clean.Fresh blood as constant as the day
Was on their altar spilt;
But Thy one offering takes away
For ever all our guilt.Their priesthood ran through several hands,
For mortal was their race;
Thy never changing office stands
Eternal as Thy days.Once in the circuit of a year,
With blood, but not his own,
Aaron within the veil appears
Before the golden throne:But Christ, by His own powerful blood,
Ascends above the skies,
And in the presence of our God
Shows His own sacrifice.Jesus, the King of glory, reigns
On Zion’s heav’nly hill;
Looks like a lamb that has been slain,
And wears His priesthood still.He ever lives to intercede
Before His Father’s face:
Give Him, my soul, thy cause to plead,
Nor doubt the Father’s grace.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 9:22] Jesus, Whose Blood So Freely Streamed
Jesus, whose blood so freely streamed
To satisfy the law’s demand;
By Thee from guilt and wrath redeemed,
Before the Father’s face I stand.To reconcile offending man,
Make Justice drop her angry rod;
What creature could have formed the plan,
Or who fulfill it but a God?No drop remains of all the curse,
For wretches who deserved the whole;
No arrows dipped in wrath to pierce
The guilty, but returning soul.Peace by such means so dearly bought,
What rebel could have hoped to see?
Peace by his injured Sovereign wrought,
His Sovereign fastened to a tree.Now, Lord, Thy feeble worm prepare!
For strife with earth and hell begins;
Conform and gird me for the war;
They hate the soul that hates his sins.Let them in horrid league agree!
They may assault, they may distress;
But cannot quench Thy love to me,
Nor rob me of the Lord my Peace.source: Cyberhymnal -

Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.Refrain
This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

[Heb 9:28] One Day
One day when Heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my Example is He!Refrain
Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely forever;
One day He’s coming—O glorious day!One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,
One day they nailed Him to die on the tree;
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected:
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He!Refrain
One day they left Him alone in the garden,
One day He rested, from suffering free;
Angels came down o’er His tomb to keep vigil;
Hope of the hopeless, my Savior is He!Refrain
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door;
Then He arose, over death He had conquered;
Now is ascended, my Lord evermore!Refrain
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glories will shine;
Wonderful day, my belovèd ones bringing;
Glorious Savior, this Jesus is mine!Refrain

[Heb 9:28] Upon The Cross Extended
Upon the cross extended,
See, world, thy Lord suspended.
Thy Savior yields His breath.
The Prince of Life from Heaven
Himself hath freely given
To shame and blows and bitter death.Come hither now and ponder,
’Twill fill thy soul with wonder,
Blood streams from every pore.
Through grief whose depth none knoweth,
From His great heart there floweth
Sigh after sigh of anguish o’er.Who is it that hath bruised Thee?
Who hath so sore abused Thee
And caused Thee all Thy woe?
While we must make confession
Of sin and dire transgression,
Thou deeds of evil dost not know.I caused Thy grief and sighing
By evils multiplying
As countless as the sands.
I caused the woes unnumbered
With which Thy soul is cumbered,
Thy sorrows raised by wicked hands.’Tis I who should be smitten,
My doom should here be written;
Bound hand and foot in hell.
The fetters and the scourging,
The floods around Thee surging,
’Tis I who have deserved them well.The load Thou takest on Thee,
That pressed so sorely on me,
It crushed me to the ground.
The cross for me enduring,
The crown for me securing,
My healing in Thy wounds is found.A crown of thorns Thou wearest,
My shame and scorn Thou bearest,
That I might ransomed be.
My Bondsman, ever willing,
My place with patience filling,
From sin and guilt hast made me free.Thy cords of love, my Savior,
Bind me to Thee forever,
I am no longer mine.
To Thee I gladly tender
All that my life can render
And all I have to Thee resign.Thy cross I’ll place before me,
Its saving power be o’er me,
Wherever I may be;
Thine innocence revealing,
Thy love and mercy sealing,
The pledge of truth and constancy.How God at our transgression
To anger gives expression,
How loud His thunders roll,
How fearfully He smiteth,
How sorely He requiteth—
All this Thy sufferings teach my soul.When evil men revile me,
With wicked tongues defile me,
I’ll curb my vengeful heart.
The unjust wrong I’ll suffer,
Unto my neighbor offer
Forgiveness of each bitter smart.Thy groaning and Thy sighing,
Thy bitter tears and dying,
With which Thou was opprest—
They shall, when life is ending,
Be guiding and attending
My way to Thine eternal rest.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 9:28] When Jesus Comes
Down life’s dark vale we wander,
Till Jesus comes;
We watch and wait and wonder,
Till Jesus comes.Refrain
All joy His loved ones bringing,
When Jesus comes;
All praise through heaven ringing,
When Jesus comes.
All beauty bright and vernal,
When Jesus comes;
All glory, grand, eternal,
When Jesus comes.Oh, let my lamp be burning
When Jesus comes;
For Him my soul be yearning
When Jesus comes.Refrain
No more heart pangs nor sadness,
When Jesus comes;
All peace and joy and gladness,
When Jesus comes.Refrain
All doubts and fears will vanish,
When Jesus comes;
All gloom His face will banish,
When Jesus comes.Refrain
He’ll know the way was dreary,
When Jesus comes;
He’ll know the feet grew weary,
When Jesus comes.Refrain
He’ll know what griefs oppressed me,
When Jesus comes;
Oh, how His arms will rest me!
When Jesus comes.Refrain

[Heb 10:4] Not All The Blood Of Beasts
Not all the blood of beasts
On Jewish altars slain
Could give the guilty conscience peace
Or wash away the stain.But Christ, the heav’nly Lamb,
Takes all our sins away;
A sacrifice of nobler name
And richer blood than they.My faith would lay her hand
On that dear head of Thine,
While, like a penitent, I stand,
And there confess my sin.My soul looks back to see
The burdens Thou didst bear
When hanging on the cursèd tree,
And hopes her guilt was there.Believing, we rejoice
To see the curse remove;
We bless the Lamb with cheerful voice,
And sing His bleeding love.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 10:4] O Thou Whose Offering On The Tree
O Thou whose offering on the tree
The legal offerings all foreshowed,
Borrowed their whole effect from Thee,
And drew their virtue from Thy blood.The blood of goats and bullocks slain,
Could never for one sin atone;
To purge the guilty offerer’s stain,
Thine was the work, and Thine alone.Vain in themselves their duties were,
Their services could never please,
Till joined with Thine, and made to share
The merits of Thy righteousness.Forward they cast a faithful look
On Thy approaching sacrifice;
And thence their pleasing savor took,
And rose accepted in the skies.These feeble types and shadows old,
Are all in Thee, the Truth, fulfilled;
We in Thy sacrifice behold
The substance of those rites revealed.Thy meritorious sufferings past,
We see by faith to us brought back;
And, on Thy grand oblation cast,
Its saving benefits partake.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 10:10] Once, Only Once
Once, only once, and once for all,
His precious life He gave;
Before the cross in faith we fall,
And own it strong to save.“One off’ring, single and complete,”
With lips and hearts we say;
But what He never can repeat
He shows forth day by day.For as the priest of Aaron’s line
Within the holiest stood,
And sprinkled all the mercy shrine
With sacrificial blood;So He, who once atonement wrought,
Our Priest of endless power,
Presents Himself for those He bought
In that dark noontide hour.His manhood pleads where now it lives
On heaven’s eternal throne,
And where in mystic rite He gives
Its presence to His own.And so we show Thy death, O Lord,
Till Thou again appear,
And feel, when we approach Thy board,
We have an altar here.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 10:10] True Messiah Now Appears, The
The true Messiah now appears,
The types are all withdrawn;
So fly the shadows and the stars
Before the rising dawn.No smoking sweets, nor bleeding lambs,
Nor kid nor bullock slain;
Incense and spice of costly names
Would all be burnt in vain.Aaron must lay his robes away,
His miter and his vest,
When God Himself comes down to be
The offering and the priest.He took our mortal flesh to show
The wonders of His love;
For us He paid His life below,
And prays for us above.“Father,” He cries, “forgive their sins,
For I Myself have died”;
And then He shows His opened veins
And pleads His wounded side.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 10:12] Come, All Harmonious Tongues
Come, all harmonious tongues,
Your noblest music bring;
’Tis Christ the everlasting God,
And Christ the man, we sing.
Tell how He took our flesh,
To take away our guilt;
Sing the dear drops of sacred blood
That hellish monsters spilt.Alas! the cruel spear
Went deep into His side,
And the rich flood of purple gore
Their murderous weapons dyed.
The waves of swelling grief
Did o’er His bosom roll,
And mountains of almighty wrath
Lay heavy on His soul.Down to the shades of death
He bowed His smitten head;
Yet He arose to live and reign
When death itself is dead.
No more the bloody spear,
The cross and nails no more;
For hell itself shakes at His Name,
And all the heav’ns adore.There the Redeemer sits
High on the Father’s throne;
The Father lays His vengeance by,
And smiles upon His Son.
There His full glories shine
With uncreated rays,
And bless His saints and angels’ eyes
To everlasting days.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 10:14] When O’er My Sins I Sorrow
When o’er my sins I sorrow,
Lord, I will look to Thee
And hence my comfort borrow
That Thou wast slain for me;
Yea, Lord, Thy precious blood was spilt
For me, O most unworthy,
To take away my guilt.Oh, what a marvelous offering!
Behold, the Master spares
His servants, and their suffering
And grief for them He bears.
God stoopeth from His throne on high;
For me, His guilty creature,
He deigns as man to die.My manifold transgression
Henceforth can harm me none
Since Jesus’ bloody Passion
For me God’s grace hath won.
His precious blood my debts hath paid;
Of hell and all its torments
I am no more afraid.Therefore I will forever
Give glory unto Thee,
O Jesus, loving Savior,
For what Thou didst for me.
I’ll spend my breath in songs of thanks
For Thy sad cry, Thy sufferings,
Thy wrongs, Thy guiltless death.Play source: Cyberhymnal
