1 Corinthians 6:12

Context
Flee Sexual Immorality

6:12 “All things are lawful for me” 1  – but not everything is beneficial. “All things are lawful for me” – but I will not be controlled by anything.

1 Corinthians 9:17

Context
9:17 For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward. But if I do it unwillingly, I am entrusted with a responsibility.

1 Corinthians 14:19

Context
14:19 but in the church I want to speak five words with my mind to instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

1 Corinthians 15:31

Context
15:31 Every day I am in danger of death! This is as sure as 2  my boasting in you, 3  which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 sn All things are lawful for me. In the expressions in vv. 12-13 within quotation marks, Paul cites certain slogans the Corinthians apparently used to justify their behavior. Paul agrees with the slogans in part, but corrects them to show how the Corinthians have misused these ideas.

2 tn Or, more literally, “I swear by the boasting in you.”

3 tc ‡ Although the witnesses for the shorter reading (Ì46 D F G Ψ 075 0243 1739 1881 Ï) are not as strong as for the addition of ἀδελφοί (adelfoi, “brothers”) at this juncture (א A B K P 33 81 104 365 1175 2464 lat sy co), it is difficult to find a reason why scribes would either intentionally or unintentionally drop the address here. Thus, the shorter reading is slightly preferred.
