lithophyte, n. [Litho- + Gr. plant: cf. F. lithophyte.].
A hard, or stony, plantlike organism, as the gorgonians, corals, and corallines, esp. those gorgonians having a calcareous axis. All the lithophytes except the corallines are animals. [1913 Webster]
