bioluminescencen. [Gr. bi`os life + luminescence.].
     a type of luminescence produced by biological or biochemical processes, such as a glowworm glow or the action of luciferase on luciferin. A well-known example is that of firefly luminescence. See also luciferin.  [PJC]
