tephrosia, n. [NL., fr. Gr. ash-colored, from ashes.].
A genus of leguminous shrubby plants and herbs, mostly found in tropical countries, a few herbaceous species being North American. The foliage is often ashy-pubescent, whence the name. [1913 Webster]
