ecumenic, a. [L. oecumenicus, Gr. (sc. ) the inhabited world, fr. to inhabit, from o'i^kos house, dwelling. See Economy.].

General; universal; in ecclesiastical usage, that which concerns the whole church; as, an ecumenical council. [1913 Webster]
