EXCEED; EXCEEDING; EXCEEDINGLY - ek-sed': The verb is found in other than its present sense in Job 36:9 the King James Version, "They have exceeded" (the Revised Version (British and American) "behaved themselves proudly"); 1 Sam 20:41, "They .... wept .... until David exceeded" (the King James Version and the Revised Version (British and American)). In both these passages the idea is that of going too far, beyond proper bounds (Hebrew, respectively, gabhar, "be strong" (in the Hithpael); gadhal, "be great" (in the Hiphil).
