(Heb. tsaniph) a tiara round the head (Isa. 3:23; R.V., pl., "turbans"). Rendered "diadem," Job 29:14; high priest's "mitre," Zech. 3:5; "royal diadem," Isa. 62:3.
HOOD [ISBE]
HOOD - hood (zeniphoth): The ladies' "hoods" of Isa 3:23 the King James Version appear as "turbans" the Revised Version (British and American); and "mitre" of Zec 3:5 is "turban, or diadem" the English Revised Version, margin. The word is from the verb zanaph, "to wrap round." It connotes a head-covering, not a permanent article of dress.See DRESS, sec. 5; HAT.
