Glistering
GLISTERING [ISBE]
GLISTERING - glis'-ter-ing (pukh, "dye" (spec. "stibium"), "fair colors"; stilbonta): "`Glistering stones' (1 Ch 29:2) is betterthan the `inlaid' of the Revised Version (British and American); for some kind of colored, brilliant stone seems meant" (HDB, II, 182); compare Isa 54:11 Revised Version, margin. The term is employed in Mk 9:3 to denote the white, lustrous appearance of Christ's garments at the transfiguration. It occurs nowhere else in the New Testament. For once the Divine effulgence shone through the veil of the humiliation (compare Jn 1:14).
