Mark 4
- [Mar 4:14] Ye Sons Of Earth Prepare The Plough
Ye sons of earth prepare the plough,
Break up your fallow ground!
The Sower is gone forth to sow,
And scatter blessings round.The seed that finds a stony soil
Shoots forth a hasty blade;
But ill repays the sower’s toil,
Soon withered, scorched, and dead.The thorny ground is sure to balk
All hopes of harvest there;
We find a tall and sickly stalk,
But not the fruitful ear.The beaten path and highway side
Receive the trust in vain;
The watchful birds the spoil divide,
And pick up all the grain.But where the Lord of grace and power
Has blessed the happy field,
How plenteous is the golden store
The deep wrought furrows yield!Father of mercies, we have need
Of Thy preparing grace;
Let the same hand that gives me seed
Provide a fruitful place!Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Mar 4:37] Fierce Raged O’er The Tempest Deep
Fierce raged the tempest o’er the deep,
Watch did Thine anxious servants keep
But Thou wast wrapped in guileless sleep,
Calm and still.“Save, Lord, we perish,” was their cry,
“O save us in our agony!”
Thy word above the storm rose high,
“Peace, be still.”The wild winds hushed; the angry deep
Sank, like a little child, to sleep;
The sullen billows ceased to leap,
At Thy will.So, when our life is clouded o’er,
And storm winds drift us from the shore,
Say, lest we sink to rise no more,
“Peace, be still.”source: Cyberhymnal - [Mar 4:37] Fierce Was The Storm Of Wind
Fierce was the storm of wind,
The surging waves ran high,
Failed the disciples’ hearts with fear,
Tho’ Thou, their Lord, wast nigh.But at the stern rebuke,
Of Thy almighty word,
The wind was hushed, the billows ceased,
And owned Thee God and Lord.So now, when depths of sin,
Our souls with terrors fill,
Arise, and be our Helper, Lord,
And speak Thy “Peace, be still.”When death’s dark sea we cross,
Be with us in Thy power,
Nor let the water floods prevail
In that dread trial hour.And, when amid the sighs,
Which speak Thine Advent near,
The roaring of the sea and waves
Fills faithless hearts with fear;May we all undismayed
The raging tempests see,
Lift up our head and hail with joy
Thy great Epiphany.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Mar 4:37] Lord, The Wind And Sea Obey Thee
Lord, the wind and sea obey Thee,
Moon and stars their homage pay Thee;
Listen to us, as we pray Thee,
Who on Thee for all depend.Bless all travelers and strangers,
Safely keep the ocean rangers,
Guide them in the midst of dangers:
All to Thee we now commend.Bless the friends we’ve left behind us;
Closer may our parting bind us:
May they dearer, better, find us,
When we reach our journey’s end.On our way, dear Lord, direct us;
Where we err do Thou correct us;
From the powers of ill protect us,
From all perils us defend.May we know Thy presence o’er us,
See Thy guiding hand before us,
Till Thou safely dost restore us,
Love to love and friend to friend.Holy God, in mercy bending,
Human souls with love befriending,
Fit us all for joy unending,
When this earthly course doth end.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Mar 4:37] Master, The Tempest Is Raging
Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high!
The sky is o’ershadowed with blackness,
No shelter or help is nigh;
Carest Thou not that we perish?
How canst Thou lie asleep,
When each moment so madly is threatening
A grave in the angry deep?Refrain
The winds and the waves shall obey Thy will,
Peace, be still!
Whether the wrath of the storm tossed sea,
Or demons or men, or whatever it be
No waters can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean, and earth, and skies;
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will,
Peace, be still! Peace, be still!
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will,
Peace, peace, be still!Master, with anguish of spirit
I bow in my grief today;
The depths of my sad heart are troubled
Oh, waken and save, I pray!
Torrents of sin and of anguish
Sweep o’er my sinking soul;
And I perish! I perish! dear Master
Oh, hasten, and take control.Refrain
Master, the terror is over,
The elements sweetly rest;
Earth’s sun in the calm lake is mirrored,
And heaven’s within my breast;
Linger, O blessèd Redeemer!
Leave me alone no more;
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor,
And rest on the blissful shore.Refrain

O troubled sea of Galilee,
When run thy billows high,
And through thy dreaded storms I see
That pain and death are nigh;
O when thy threatening clouds appear
And floods impending chill,
Through surge and tempest may I hear
A voice say, “Peace, be still.”O storied sea of Galilee,
Through all the changing years,
Thy stress is type of storms to be
And sign of rising fears;
Thy tempests drive our hopes across
The floods of human ill;
The conquest o’er all pain and loss
Is in thy “Peace, be still.”Thou vaster sea than Galilee,
Where may I look for peace?
What wondrous power commanding thee
Can cause thy winds to cease?
Praise God! that o’er all surging tides
There broods His sovereign will;
That in each inmost soul abides
His conquering “Peace, be still.”Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Mar 4:38] Christ In The Storm
Galilee’s waters are raging,
On them a vessel is tossed;
Seamen in terror are calling,
“Carest Thou not, we are lost?”
Sweetly asleep on a pillow,
Maker and Savior He lay;
Wild with dismay they awake Him,
“Master, we perish,” they say.Refrain
Speak thro’ the storm when the billows run high,
Say to my soul, “Do not fear, it is I”;
Speak thro’ the storm when the billows run high,
Say to my soul, “Do not fear, it is I.”Over the noise of the tempest,
Over the dash of the wave,
Rings the sweet voice of the Savior;
See, He is mighty to save;
Calmed in a moment the billows,
Hushed in an instant to sleep,
Stilled is the roar of the wild winds,
Steadied their boat on the deep.Refrain
Wonderful Jesus, I need Thee,
Out in the storm and the strife,
Oft it has seemed I was sinking,
Tossed on the ocean of life;
Speak to the winds and the waters,
Each Thy behest must fulfill;
Speak to my heart in the tempest,
Whispering softly, “Be still.”Refrain
When I am toiling in rowing,
Almost engulfed in the sea,
Make of the billows a pathway,
Come thro’ the darkness to me;
Failures and terrors will vanish,
Soon as I know Thou art nigh;
Say to my soul in the danger,
“Be not afraid, it is I.”Refrain
Waters unknown are awaiting
Travelers leaving earth’s shore;
Back to this side of the river,
Passengers come nevermore;
O when that chill tide is bringing
Boatmen to bear me away,
Galilee’s Conqu’ror, be with me;
Pilot me over, I pray.Refrain

Fierce was the billow wild, dark was the night;
Oars labored heavily, foam glimmered white.
Trembled the mariners; peril was nigh:
Then said the God of God, “Peace: it is I.”Ridge of the mountain wave, lower thy crest;
Wail of the tempest wind, be thou at rest.
Sorrow can never be, darkness must fly,
Where saith the Light of light, “Peace: it is I.”Jesus, Deliverer, near to us be;
Soothe thou my voyaging over life’s sea;
Thou, when the storm of death roars, sweeping by,
Whisper, O Truth of truth, “Peace: it is I.”Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Mar 4:38] Lord, Whom Winds And Waves Obey
Lord, whom winds and waves obey,
Guide us through the watery way;
In the hollow of Thy hand
Hide, and bring us safe to land.Jesus, let our faithful mind
Rest, on Thee alone reclined;
Every anxious thought repress,
Keep our souls in perfect peace.Keep the souls whom now we leave,
Bid them to each other cleave;
Bid them walk on life’s rough sea;
Bid them come by faith to Thee.Save, till all these tempests end,
All who on Thy love depend;
Waft our happy spirits o’er;
Land us on the heavenly shore.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Mar 4:39] Does Thy Savior Pilot Thee?
The stormy winds may blow,
And with fury lash life’s sea;

Sailor, on a stormy sea;
Do you hope to reach the haven?
Does thy Savior pilot thee?How sad to drift alone,
Tossed by every passing wave!
There is a Pilot, sin sick soul;
Christ alone thy bark can save.Refrain

No longer left to fight alone,
He will guide thee through the strife.Refrain

He hath spoken, “Be still,” the Rebuker of seas;
The command was for me, and my heart is at ease;
He hath hushed into silence the waves and the winds,
By applying His blood, and removing my sins.Refrain
He’s the Prince of peacemakers, all glory to God,
To redeem me, and cleanse me, He shed his own blood;
My adoption is sealed, I’m a child of the King,
And for ever and ever of Jesus I’ll sing.He hath quickened my soul by a life from above,
It was done by the Spirit, its essence is love;
He hath pardoned and washed me as white as the snow,
And my heart with His love does this moment o’erflow.Refrain

He’s the great Son of God, a Redeemer divine.
He’s my strength, and my wisdom, my life and my Lord,
And enthroned in my heart to be loved and adored.Refrain

For His love fills my heart, and His beauty my eye.
He’s the fairest and dearest of all to my soul,
And our lives shall be one, while eternities roll.Refrain

Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee;
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.While th’Apostles’ fragile bark
Struggled with the billows dark,
On the stormy Galilee,
Thou didst walk upon the sea;
And when they beheld Thy form,
Safe they glided through the storm.Though the sea be smooth and bright,
Sparkling with the stars of night,
And my ship’s path be ablaze
With the light of halcyon days,
Still I know my need of Thee;
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.When the darkling heavens frown,
And the wrathful winds come down,
And the fierce waves, tossed on high,
Lash themselves against the sky,
Jesus, Savior, pilot me,
Over life’s tempestuous sea.As a mother stills her child,
Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
Boisterous waves obey Thy will,
When Thou sayest to them, “Be still!”
Wondrous Sovereign of the sea,
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.When at last I near the shore,

’Twixt me and the peaceful rest,
