Hebrews 1
- [Heb 1:1] God, Who In Various Methods Told
God, who in various methods told
His mind and will to saints of old,
Sent down His Son, with truth and grace,
To teach us in these latter days.Our nation reads the written Word,
That book of life, that sure record:
The bright inheritance of Heav’n
Is by the sweet conveyance giv’n.God’s kindest thoughts are here expressed,
Able to make us wise and bless’d;
The doctrines are divinely true,
Fit for reproof and comfort, too.[The last stanza would, obviously, need updating for a present day use.]
Ye British isles, who read His love
In long epistles from above,
(He hath not sent His sacred Word
To every land,) praise ye the Lord.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Heb 1:3] Jesu, Our Hope, Our Heart’s Desire
Jesu, our Hope, our heart’s Desire,
Thy work of grace we sing;
Redeemer of the world art Thou,
Its Maker and its King.How vast the mercy and the love,
Which laid our sins on Thee,
And led Thee to a cruel death,
To set Thy people free!But now the bonds of death are burst;
The ransom has been paid;
And Thou art on Thy Father’s throne,
In glorious robes arrayed.O may Thy mighty love prevail
Our sinful souls to spare!
O may we stand around Thy throne,
And see Thy glory there!Jesu, our only Joy be Thou,
As Thou our Prize wilt be;
In Thee be all our glory now
And through eternity.All praise to Thee Who art gone up
Triumphantly to Heav’n;
All praise to God the Father’s Name
And Holy Ghost be given.source: Cyberhymnal - [Heb 1:3] O Brightness Of Th’immortal Father’s Face
O Brightness of th’immortal Father’s face,
Most holy, heav’nly, blest,
Lord Jesus Christ, in Whom His truth and grace
Are visibly expressed!The sun is sinking now, and one by one
The lamps of evening shine;
We hymn th’eternal Father, and the Son,
And Holy Ghost divine.Worthy art Thou at all times to receive
Our hallowed praises, Lord,
O Son of God, be Thou, in Whom we live,
Through all the world adored.source: Cyberhymnal - [Heb 1:6] Angels Adore Him
O’er the hills in far Judea,
Rang the first glad Christmas song;
’Twas a grand angelic chorus,
Shepherds saw the shining throng.
Glory streamed across the heavens,
Music echoed thro’ the air;
Christ the Morning Star hath risen!
Tell the tidings everywhere.Refrain
Angels adore Him,
Hark! We seem to hear
Echoes from Heaven,
Angel echoes clear.
Jesus the mighty
Came to earth to bring
Priceless redemption
Christ our Prophet, Priest and King!Tell again the sweet old story,
Of the shepherds on the hill,
When the angels from the glory
Sang while all the world was still.
Tell again the story wondrous,
Of the Infant in the stall,
Of the guiding star above Him,
Shining o’er the Lord of all.Refrain
Angels wondered at His coming,
To this scene of earthly night,
From the fadeless day in glory,
From His home so wondrous bright;
Angels looked in deep amazement,
At the manger of His birth,
Understanding not His purpose,
To redeem this sinful earth.Refrain

I love to hear the story which angel voices tell,
How once the King of glory came down on earth to dwell.
I am both weak and sinful; but this I surely know,
The Lord came down to save me, because He loved me so.I’m glad my blessèd Savior was once a child like me,
To show how pure and holy His little ones might be;
And, if I try to follow His footsteps here below,
He never will forget me, because He loves me so.To sing His love and mercy my sweetest songs I’ll raise;
And, though I cannot see Him, I know he hears my praise;
For He has kindly promised that even I may go
To sing among His angels, because He loves me so.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Heb 1:6] O Holy Lord, Our God
O holy Lord, our God,
By heav’nly hosts adored,
Hear us, we pray;
To Thee the cherubim,
Angels and seraphim,
Unceasing praises hymn,
Their homage pay.Here give Thy Word success,
And this Thy servant bless,
His labors own;
And while the sinner’s Friend
His life and words commend,
The Holy Spirit send,
And make him known.May every passing year
More happy still appear
Than this glad day;
With numbers fill the place,
Adorn Thy saints with grace,
Thy truth may all embrace,
O Lord, we pray.O Lord, our God, arise;
And now, before our eyes,
Thy arm make bare;
Unite our hearts in love
Till, raised to Heav’n above,
We all its fullness prove,
And praise Thee there.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Heb 1:11] Thou Remainest
Thou remainest, blest Redeemer,
Lord of peace and Lord of strife,
Jesus, Savior, Lord forever,
Thou remainest, Christ, my life.Refrain
Thou remainest
Thou remainest
Thou remainest, Christ, my all;
Peace or conflict, joy or sorrow,
Thou remainest, Christ, my all.Satisfying every longing,
Of my sinful soul for grace;
From my weakness never turning,
Thou remainest, Christ, my peace.Refrain
One by one my loved ones leave me,
Voices sweet no more be heard;
But of God naught can bereave me,
Thou remainest, Christ, my Lord.Refrain
When from earth, Thou, Lord, shalt call me,
Calm I’ll lay my burden down;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Thou remainest, Christ, my crown.Refrain

Lord God, we all to Thee give praise,
Thanksgivings meet to Thee we raise,
That angel hosts Thou didst create
Around Thy glorious throne to wait.They shine with light and heav’nly grace
And constantly behold Thy face;
They heed Thy voice, they know it well,
In godly wisdom they excel.They never rest nor sleep as we;
Their whole delight is but to be
With Thee, Lord Jesus, and to keep
Thy little flock, Thy lambs and sheep.The ancient Dragon is their foe;
His envy and his wrath they know.
It always is his aim and pride
Thy Christian people to divide.As he of old deceived the world
And into sin and death was hurled,
So now he subtly lies in wait
To ruin school and Church and state.A roaring lion round he goes,
No halt nor rest he ever knows;
He seeks the Christians to devour
And slay them by his dreadful power.But watchful is the angel band
That follows Christ on every hand
To guard His people where they go
And break the counsel of the Foe.For this, now and in days to be,
Our praise shall rise, O Lord, to Thee,
Whom all the angel hosts adore
With grateful songs forevermore.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [Heb 1:14] They Come, God’s Messengers Of Love
They come, God’s messengers of love,
They come from realms of peace above,
From homes of never fading light,
From blissful mansions ever bright.They come to watch around us here,
To soothe our sorrow, calm our fear:
Ye heavenly guides, speed not away,
God willeth you with us to stay.But chiefly at its journey’s end
’Tis yours the spirit to befriend,
And whisper to the faithful heart,
“O Christian soul, in peace depart.”Blest Jesu, Thou Whose groans and tears
Have sanctified frail nature’s fears,
To earth in bitter sorrow weighed,
Thou didst not scorn Thine angel’s aid;An angel guard to us supply,
When on the bed of death we lie;
And by Thine own Almighty power
O shield us in the last dread hour.To God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, Three in One,
From all above and all below,
Let joyful praise unceasing flow.Play source: Cyberhymnal
