2 Peter 3
- [2Pe 3:3] Help, Lord, For Men Of Virtue Fail
Help, Lord, for men of virtue fail,
Religion loses ground,
The sons of violence prevail,
And treacheries abound.Their oaths and promises they break,
Yet act the flatterer’s part;
With fair, deceitful lips they speak,
And with a double heart.If we reprove some hateful lie,
How is their fury stirred!
“Are not our lips our own?” they cry;
“And who shall be our Lord?”Scoffers appear on every side,
Where a vile race of men
Is raised to seats of power and pride,
And bears the sword in vain.Lord, when iniquities abound,
And blasphemy grows bold,;
When faith is hardly to be found,
And love is waxing cold;Is not Thy chariot hastening on?
Hast Thou not giv’n this sign?
May we not trust and live upon
A promise so divine?“Yes,” saith the Lord, “now will I rise,
And make oppressors flee;
I shall appear to their surprise,
And set My servants free.”Thy Word, like silver sev’n times tried,
Through ages shall endure;
The men that in Thy truth confide
Shall find the promise sure.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [2Pe 3:8] Not So In Haste, My Heart
Not so in haste my heart!
Have faith in God, and wait;
Although He linger long,
He never comes too late.He never cometh late;
He knoweth what is best;
Vex not thyself in vain;
Until He cometh, rest.Until He cometh, rest,
Nor grudge the hours that roll;
The feet that wait for God
Are soonest at the goal.Are soonest at the goal
That is not gained with speed;
Then hold thee still, my heart,
For I shall wait His lead.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [2Pe 3:9] He Was Not Willing
“He was not willing that any should perish”;
Jesus enthroned in the glory above,
Saw our poor fallen world, pitied our sorrows,
Poured out His life for us, wonderful love!
Perishing, perishing! Thronging our pathway,
Hearts break with burdens too heavy to bear:
Jesus would save, but there’s no one to tell them,
No one to lift them from sin and despair.“He was not willing that any should perish”;
Clothed in our flesh with its sorrow and pain,
Came He to seek the lost, comfort the mourner,
Heal the heart broken by sorrow and shame.
Perishing, perishing! Harvest is passing,
Reapers are few and the night draweth near:
Jesus is calling thee, haste to the reaping,
Thou shalt have souls, precious souls for thy hire.Plenty for pleasure, but little for Jesus;
Time for the world with its troubles and toys,
No time for Jesus’ work, feeding the hungry,
Lifting lost souls to eternity’s joys.
Perishing, perishing! Hark, how they call us;
Bring us your Savior, oh, tell us of Him!
We are so weary, so heavily laden,
And with long weeping our eyes have grown dim.“He was not willing that any should perish”;
Am I His follower, and can I live
Longer at ease with a soul going downward,
Lost for the lack of the help I might give!
Perishing, perishing! Thou wast not willing;
Master, forgive, and inspire us anew;
Banish our worldliness, help us to ever
Live with eternity’s values in view.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [2Pe 3:9] Impatient Heart, Be Still
Impatient heart, be still!
What though He tarries long?
What though the triumph song
Is still (is still) delayed?
Thou hast His promise sure,
And that is all secure;
Be not afraid! Be not afraid!Refrain
Be still! Be still!
Impatient heart be still!My eager heart, be still!
Thy Lord will surely come,
And take thee to His home,
With Him (with Him) to dwell;
It may not be today;
And yet, my soul, it may;
I cannot tell, I cannot tell.Refrain
My anxious heart, be still!
Watch, work, and pray, and then
It will not matter when
Thy Lord (Thy Lord) shall come;
At midnight, or at noon;
He cannot come too soon
To take thee home, to take thee home.Refrain

That day of wrath, that dreadful day,
[or, The day of wrath…]
When Heav’n and earth shall pass away!
What pow’r shall be the sinner’s stay?
How shall he meet that dreadful day?When, shriveling like a parchèd scroll,
The flaming heav’ns together roll;
When louder yet, and yet more dread;
Swells the high trump that wakes the dead.O on that day, that wrathful day
When man to judgment wakes from clay,
Be Thou the trembling sinner’s stay,
Though Heav’n and earth shall pass away.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [2Pe 3:12] Stand The Omnipotent Decree
Stand the omnipotent decree!
Jehovah’s will be done!
Nature’s end we wait to see,
And hear her final groan.
Let this earth dissolve, and blend
In death the wicked and the just;
Let those ponderous orbs descend,
And grind us into dust.Rests secure the righteous man;
At his Redeemer’s beck,
Sure to emerge and rise again;
And mount above the wreck;
Lo! the heav’nly Spirit towers,
Like flames o’er nature’s funeral pyre,
Triumphs in immortal powers,
And claps His wings of fire.Nothing hath the just to lose,
By worlds on worlds destroyed:
Far beneath his feet he views,
With smiles, the flaming void;
Sees this universe renewed,
The grand millennial reign begun;
Shouts with all the sons of God,
Around th’eternal throne.Resting in this glorious hope
To be at last restored,
Yield we now our bodies up
To earthquake, plague, or sword;
Listening for the call divine,
The latest trumpet of the seven,
Soon our soul and dust shall join,
And both fly up to Heaven.Play source: Cyberhymnal - [2Pe 3:13] Meet Me In The Homeland
Will you meet me in the Homeland,
Shall we both reach Heav’n at last,
When the training days are ended,
And life’s journeys all are past?Refrain
Will you meet me there?
Will you meet me there?
’Tis the Savior bids you come;
Will you meet me there?
Will you meet me there?
He can take us safely home.Will you meet me in the glory,
Shall we both together stand
’Mid the company of saved ones,
In that blood-bought, happy band?Refrain
We are never sure of meeting
Anywhere beneath the sun,
But we look for glad reunion,
When our earthly life is done.Refrain
He has promised soon to take me
Where the King shall fill my gaze,
Will your voice with mine be blended
In that perfect hymn of praise?Refrain

All glory to Jesus, my loving King,

Sweet Gospel hosannas I gladly sing;
And glory now brightens my way.Refrain

His blessings are wondrous and free;
I’ll praise Him forever
For He is so precious to me.I’m marching to Zion, my home above,
The city of God in the sky;
Ere long I shall enter that land of love,
And sing while the ages roll by.Refrain
O come and go with me to that bright land,
You all of its glories may share;
May join the glad song of the angel band,
And meet many loved ones up there.Refrain

Jesus will lead me, I cannot tell where;
But I will follow, thro’ joy or sorrow,
Sunshine or tempest, sweet peace or despair.Refrain
Jesus will crown me—wonderful Savior!
Jesus will crown me, I cannot tell when;
White throne of splendor hail I with gladness,
Crowned ’mid the plaudits of angels and men.Refrain

O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
The soul’s eternal King,
Grant now Thy grace and favor,
While we Thy praises sing!Refrain

And give Thy Spirit course,
O feed us now and evermore,
From Love’s eternal source!Far, far from Thee, our Savior,
Our youthful steps might roam,
By sin and darkness sink in death,
Nor reach our heav’nly home.Refrain
Within Thy Church, Lord Jesus,
O let our souls aspire,
To see Thy Spirit’s holy light
And feel celestial fire!Refrain
Abide with us, Lord Jesus,
Fill us with holy zeal;
Give us to think as angels think,
And feel as angels feel.Refrain
