Matthew 19:16

Now ¹  someone came up to him and said, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?”

Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

And someone came to Him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?"

Someone came to Jesus with this question: "Teacher, what good things must I do to have eternal life?"

Another day, a man stopped Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

And one came to him and said, Master, what good thing have I to do, so that I may have eternal life?

Then someone came to him and said, "Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?"

Now behold, one came and said to Him, "Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?"

Now ¹  someone came up to him and said, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?”

¹ tn Grk “And behold one came.” The Greek word ἰδού (idou) has not been translated because it has no exact English equivalent here, but adds interest and emphasis (BDAG 468 s.v. 1). Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.
