You saw that a stone was cut from a mountain, but not by human hands; it smashed the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold into pieces. The great God has made known to the king what will occur in the future. 1 The dream is certain, and its interpretation is reliable.”
He said to me, “Don’t be afraid, you who are valued. 1 Peace be to you! Be strong! Be really strong!” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened. I said, “Sir, you may speak now, 2 for you have given me strength.”
For their mother has committed adultery; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, “I will seek out 1 my lovers; 2 they are the ones who give me my bread and my water, my wool, my flax, my olive oil, and my wine. 3
They will not pour out drink offerings of wine to the Lord; they will not please him with their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will be like bread eaten while in mourning; all those who eat them will make themselves ritually unclean. For their bread will be only to satisfy their appetite; it will not come into the temple of the Lord.
How can I give you up, 1 O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? I have had a change of heart! 2 All my tender compassions are aroused! 3
I thought, 1 ‘Certainly you will respect 2 me! Now you will accept correction!’ If she had done so, her home 3 would not be destroyed 4 by all the punishments I have threatened. 5 But they eagerly sinned in everything they did. 6

Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there, so 1 the last state of that person is worse than the first. It will be that way for this evil generation as well!”
For there are some eunuchs who were that way from birth, 1 and some who were made eunuchs 2 by others, 3 and some who became eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who is able to accept this should accept it.”

I tell you, even though the man inside 1 will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of the first man’s 2 sheer persistence 3 he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
So 1 the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the master of the household was furious 2 and said to his slave, ‘Go out quickly 3 to the streets and alleys of the city, 4 and bring in the poor, 5 the crippled, 6 the blind, and the lame.’
Jesus replied, 1 “The light is with you for a little while longer. 2 Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. 3 The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
Then some of his disciples said to one another, “What is the meaning of what he is saying, 1 ‘In a little while you 2 will not see me; again after a little while, you 3 will see me,’ and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” 4
