So Achish summoned David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you are an honest man, and I am glad to have you 1 serving 2 with me in the army. 3 I have found no fault with you from the day that you first came to me until the present time. But in the opinion 4 of the leaders, you are not reliable. 5
So I have made every effort 1 to provide what is needed for the temple of my God, including the gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, 2 as well as a large amount of onyx, settings of antimony and other stones, all kinds of precious stones, and alabaster.
“All the servants of the king and the people of the king’s provinces know that there is only one law applicable 1 to any man or woman who comes uninvited to the king in the inner court – that person will be put to death, unless the king extends to him the gold scepter, permitting him to be spared. 2 Now I have not been invited to come to the king for some thirty days!”
Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a pure and upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil. And he still holds firmly 1 to his integrity, 2 so that 3 you stirred me up to destroy him 4 without reason.” 5
