“Do not drink wine or strong drink, you and your sons with you, when you enter into the Meeting Tent, so that you do not die, which is a perpetual statute throughout your generations, 1
then the priest must wave them as a wave offering 1 before the Lord; it is a holy portion for the priest, together with the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the raised offering. 2 After this the Nazirite may drink 3 wine.’
Then you may spend the money however you wish for cattle, sheep, wine, beer, or whatever you desire. You and your household may eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and enjoy it.
She should not drink 1 anything that the grapevine produces. She must not drink wine or beer, and she must not eat any food that will make her ritually unclean. 2 She should obey everything I commanded her to do.”
The king asked Ziba, “Why did you bring these things?” 1 Ziba replied, “The donkeys are for the king’s family to ride on, the loaves of bread 2 and the summer fruit are for the attendants to eat, and the wine is for those who get exhausted in the desert.” 3
Whatever is needed – whether oxen or rams or lambs or burnt offerings for the God of heaven or wheat or salt or wine or oil, as required by 1 the priests who are in Jerusalem – must be given to them daily without any neglect,
The Israelites and the Levites will bring the contribution of the grain, the new wine, and the olive oil to the storerooms where the utensils of the sanctuary are kept, and where the priests who minister stay, along with the gatekeepers and the singers. We will not neglect the temple of our God.”
He made for himself a large storeroom where previously they had been keeping 1 the grain offering, the incense, and the vessels, along with the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the olive oil as commanded for the Levites, the singers, the gate keepers, and the offering for the priests.
Here is what the Lord says concerning the false prophets: 2 My heart and my mind are deeply disturbed. I tremble all over. 3 I am like a drunk person, like a person who has had too much wine, 4 because of the way the Lord and his holy word are being mistreated. 5
We and our wives and our sons and daughters have obeyed everything our ancestor Jonadab commanded us. We have never drunk wine. 1
But Daniel made up his mind 1 that he would not defile 2 himself with the royal delicacies or the royal wine. 3 He therefore asked the overseer of the court officials for permission not to defile himself.
“Be sure of this, 1 the time is 2 coming,” says the Lord, “when the plowman will catch up to the reaper 3 and the one who stomps the grapes 4 will overtake 5 the planter. 6 Juice will run down the slopes, 7 it will flow down all the hillsides. 8
I will bring back my people, Israel; 1 they will rebuild the cities lying in rubble 2 and settle down. 3 They will plant vineyards and drink the wine they produce; 4 they will grow orchards 5 and eat the fruit they produce. 6
If someone carries holy meat in a fold of his garment and that fold touches bread, a boiled dish, wine, olive oil, or any other food, will that item become holy?’” 1 The priests answered, “It will not.”
