The men said to her, “We are not bound by this oath you made us swear unless the following conditions are met: ¹ 

Jeroboam then thought to himself: ¹  “Now the Davidic dynasty could regain the kingdom. ² 

Consequently faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the preached word ¹  of Christ. ² 

For how will it be known then that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not by your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?” ¹ 

But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

“All the servants of the king and the people of the king’s provinces know that there is only one law applicable ¹  to any man or woman who comes uninvited to the king in the inner court – that person will be put to death, unless the king extends to him the gold scepter, permitting him to be spared. ²  Now I have not been invited to come to the king for some thirty days!”

He replied, “I’ll send you a young goat from the flock.” She asked, “Will you give me a pledge until you send it?” ¹ 

The donkey saw me and turned from me these three times. If ¹  she had not turned from me, I would have killed you but saved her alive.”

The mother of the child said, “As certainly as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So Elisha ¹  got up and followed her back.

Now give orders that these men cease their work and that this city not be rebuilt until such time as I so instruct. ¹ 

Do not be ¹  like an unintelligent horse or mule, ²  which will not obey you unless they are controlled by a bridle and bit. ³ 

unless they became my subjects ¹  and made peace with me; let them make peace with me. ² 

“‘They must not come near a dead person or they will be defiled; ¹  however, for father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister, they may defile themselves.

What the king is asking is too difficult, and no one exists who can disclose it to the king, except for the gods – but they don’t live among mortals!” ¹ 

Does a lion roar in the woods if he has not cornered his prey? ¹  Does a young lion bellow from his den if he has not caught something?

Does a bird swoop down into a trap on the ground if there is no bait? Does a trap spring up from the ground unless it has surely caught something?

When they had completely consumed the earth’s vegetation, I said, “Sovereign Lord, forgive Israel! ¹  How can Jacob survive? ²  He is too weak!” ³ 

I said, “Sovereign Lord, stop! How can Jacob survive? ¹  He is too weak!” ² 

So also my heavenly Father will do to you, if each of you does not forgive your ¹  brother ²  from your heart.”

Now I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another commits adultery.”
