I myself will set my face 1 against that man and cut him off from the midst of his people, 2 because he has given some of his children to Molech and thereby defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name. 3
He must purify himself 1 with water on the third day and on the seventh day, and so will be clean. But if he does not purify himself on the third day and the seventh day, then he will not be clean.
But Daniel made up his mind 1 that he would not defile 2 himself with the royal delicacies or the royal wine. 3 He therefore asked the overseer of the court officials for permission not to defile himself.
