Moreover, they have done this to me: In the very same day ¹  they desecrated my sanctuary and profaned my Sabbaths.

All the inhabitants of the coastlands are shocked at you, and their kings are horribly afraid – their faces are troubled.

For the day is near, the day of the Lord is near; it will be a day of storm clouds, ¹  it will be a time of judgment ²  for the nations.

When all this comes true – and it certainly will ¹  – then they will know that a prophet was among them.”

How awful that day will be! ¹  For the day of the Lord is near; it will come as destruction from the Divine Destroyer. ² 

Woe to the city guilty of bloodshed! ¹  She is full of lies; ²  she is filled with plunder; ³  she has hoarded her spoil! ⁴ 

And a great storm developed on the sea so that the waves began to swamp the boat. But he was asleep.

They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised.” And they became greatly distressed.

Now ¹  in the synagogue ²  there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean ³  demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,

Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seats ¹  in the synagogues ²  and elaborate greetings ³  in the marketplaces!

Woe to you! You build ¹  the tombs of the prophets whom your ancestors ²  killed.

I have a baptism ¹  to undergo, ²  and how distressed I am until it is finished!

But first he must ¹  suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

But when the man ¹  heard this he became very sad, ²  for he was extremely wealthy.

For the Son of Man is to go just as it has been determined, ¹  but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!”

So Simon Peter ¹  gestured to this disciple ²  to ask Jesus ³  who it was he was referring to. ⁴ 

but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury ¹  of fire that will consume God’s enemies. ² 

“For this is what the sovereign Lord says: How much worse will it be when I send my four terrible judgments – sword, famine, wild animals, and plague – to Jerusalem ¹  to kill both people and animals!

They will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment, and will say, “Woe, woe, O great city, Babylon the powerful city! For in a single hour your doom ¹  has come!”

“So now, our God – the great, powerful, and awesome God, who keeps covenant fidelity ¹  – do not regard as inconsequential ²  all the hardship that has befallen us – our kings, our leaders, our priests, our prophets, our ancestors, and all your people – from the days of the kings of Assyria until this very day!
