Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test! 1
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues 1 of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
So 1 I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He 2 said to me, “Take the scroll 3 and eat it. It 4 will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”
Then Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law who were going to marry his daughters. 1 He said, “Quick, get out of this place because the Lord is about to destroy 2 the city!” But his sons-in-law thought he was ridiculing them. 3
When he saw the bracelets on his sister’s wrists and the nose ring 1 and heard his sister Rebekah say, 2 “This is what the man said to me,” he went out to meet the man. There he was, standing 3 by the camels near the spring.
God also said to Moses, “You must say this to the Israelites, ‘The Lord 1 – the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob – has sent me to you. This is my name 2 forever, and this is my memorial from generation to generation.’ 3
He said, “If you will diligently obey 1 the Lord your God, and do what is right 2 in his sight, and pay attention 3 to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, then all 4 the diseases 5 that I brought on the Egyptians I will not bring on you, for I, the Lord, am your healer.” 6
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel your servants, to whom you swore by yourself and told them, ‘I will multiply your descendants 1 like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken about 2 I will give to your descendants, 3 and they will inherit it forever.’”
for the life of all flesh is its blood. 1 So I have said to the Israelites: You must not eat the blood of any living thing 2 because the life of every living thing is its blood – all who eat it will be cut off. 3
What is going to happen to us? Our brothers have drained away our courage 1 by describing people who are more numerous 2 and taller than we are, and great cities whose defenses appear to be as high as heaven 3 itself! Moreover, they said they saw 4 Anakites 5 there.”
“Tell 1 all the leaders of Shechem this: ‘Why would you want 2 to have seventy men, all Jerub-Baal’s sons, ruling over you, when you can have just one ruler? Recall that I am your own flesh and blood.’” 3
