and that you may so revere the Lord your God that you will keep all his statutes and commandments 1 that I am giving 2 you – you, your children, and your grandchildren – all your lives, to prolong your days.
What 1 I am commanding you today is to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to obey his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances. Then you will live and become numerous and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you are about to possess. 2
Do the job the Lord your God has assigned you 1 by following his instructions 2 and obeying 3 his rules, commandments, regulations, and laws as written in the law of Moses. Then you will succeed in all you do and seek to accomplish, 4
The Lord solemnly warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and all the seers, “Turn back from your evil ways; obey my commandments and rules that are recorded in the law. I ordered your ancestors to keep this law and sent my servants the prophets to remind you of its demands.” 1
They rejected his rules, the covenant he had made with their ancestors, and the laws he had commanded them to obey. 1 They paid allegiance to 2 worthless idols, and so became worthless to the Lord. 3 They copied the practices of the surrounding nations in blatant disregard of the Lord’s command. 4
The king stood by the pillar and renewed 1 the covenant before the Lord, agreeing to follow 2 the Lord and to obey his commandments, laws, and rules with all his heart and being, 3 by carrying out the terms 4 of this covenant recorded on this scroll. All the people agreed to keep the covenant. 5
Whenever your countrymen who live in the cities bring a case before you 1 (whether it involves a violent crime 2 or other matters related to the law, commandments, rules, and regulations), warn them that they must not sin against the Lord. If you fail to do so, God will be angry with you and your colleagues; but if you obey, you will be free of guilt. 3

When they are ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them the design of the temple, its pattern, its exits and entrances, and its whole design – all its statutes, its entire design, and all its laws; write it all down in their sight, so that they may observe its entire design and all its statutes and do them.
Judah also failed to keep the commandments of the Lord their God; they followed Israel’s example. 1
The thigh of the contribution offering and the breast of the wave offering they must bring in addition to the gifts of the fat parts to wave them as a wave offering before the Lord, and it will belong to you and your sons with you for a perpetual statute just as the Lord has commanded.”
You must observe this event as an ordinance for you and for your children forever.
