‘You displayed a sensitive spirit 1 and humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard how I intended to make this place and its residents into an appalling example of an accursed people. 2 You tore your clothes and wept before me, and I have heard you,’ says the Lord.
He brought all the priests from the cities of Judah and ruined 1 the high places where the priests had offered sacrifices, from Geba to Beer Sheba. 2 He tore down the high place of the goat idols 3 situated at the entrance of the gate of Joshua, the city official, on the left side of the city gate.

For to the one who pleases him, 1 God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner, he gives the task of amassing 2 wealth 3 – only to give 4 it 5 to the one who pleases God. This 6 task of the wicked 7 is futile – like chasing the wind!

It will seem as if the sun had set while it was still day. 3 She will suffer shame and humiliation. 4 I will cause any of them who are still left alive to be killed in war by the onslaughts of their enemies,” 5 says the Lord.
He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing – the great abominations that the people 1 of Israel are practicing here, to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see greater abominations than these!”
He said to me, “Do you see, son of man? Is it a trivial thing that the house of Judah commits these abominations they are practicing here? For they have filled the land with violence and provoked me to anger still further. Look, they are putting the branch to their nose! 1
Then he said to me, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel, for from the very first day you applied your mind 1 to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. I have come in response to your words.
They will not pour out drink offerings of wine to the Lord; they will not please him with their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will be like bread eaten while in mourning; all those who eat them will make themselves ritually unclean. For their bread will be only to satisfy their appetite; it will not come into the temple of the Lord.
For God achieved what the law could not do because 1 it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
And we are sending 1 with them our brother whom we have tested many times and found eager in many matters, but who now is much more eager than ever because of the great confidence he has in you.
Finally then, brothers and sisters, 1 we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received instruction from us about how 2 you must live and please God (as you are in fact living) 3 that you do so more and more.
The rest of humanity, who had not been killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so that they did not stop worshiping demons and idols made 1 of gold, silver, 2 bronze, stone, and wood – idols that cannot see or hear or walk about.
“And you, Solomon my son, obey 1 the God of your father and serve him with a submissive attitude and a willing spirit, 2 for the Lord examines all minds and understands every motive of one’s thoughts. If you seek him, he will let you find him, 3 but if you abandon him, he will reject you permanently.
