The nations ¹  will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeur ²  into it.

from the Shihor River ¹  east of ²  Egypt northward to the territory of Ekron (it is regarded as Canaanite territory), ³  including the area belonging to the five Philistine lords who ruled in Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron, as well as Avvite land ⁴ 

When Delilah saw that he had told her his secret, ¹  she sent for ²  the rulers of the Philistines, saying, “Come up here again, for he has told me ³  his secret.” ⁴  So the rulers of the Philistines went up to visit her, bringing the silver in their hands.

So when the envoys arrived from the Babylonian officials to visit him and inquire about the sign that occurred in the land, ¹  God left him alone to test him, in order to know his true motives. ² 

Indeed, they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy race ¹  has become intermingled with the local residents. Worse still, the leaders and the officials have been at the forefront of all of this!”

Going after them were Hoshaiah, half the leaders of Judah,

the chief men refrained from talking and covered their mouths with their hands;

when the nations gather together, and the kingdoms pay tribute to the Lord. ¹ 

Their land was overrun by frogs, which even got into the rooms of their kings.

It is better to take shelter in the Lord than to trust in princes.

Indeed, ¹  the leaders sit ²  there on thrones and make legal decisions, on the thrones of the house of David. ³ 

They bind ¹  their kings in chains, and their nobles in iron shackles,

I have seen slaves ¹  on horseback and princes walking on foot ²  like slaves.

Look, a king will promote fairness; ¹  officials will promote justice. ² 

Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent out a summons to assemble the satraps, prefects, governors, counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, ¹  and all the other authorities of the province to attend the dedication of the statue that he ²  had erected.

So the satraps, prefects, governors, counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the other provincial authorities assembled for the dedication of the statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had erected. They were standing in front of the statue that Nebuchadnezzar had erected. ¹ 

Then the kingdom, authority, and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven will be delivered to the people of the holy ones ¹  of the Most High. His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; all authorities will serve him and obey him.’

The royal advisers delight the king with their evil schemes, the princes make him glad with their lies.

Now a certain man, a Pharisee ¹  named Nicodemus, who was a member of the Jewish ruling council, ² 

Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus ¹  before and who was one of the rulers, ²  said, ³
