Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

¹  from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer, Jahaz,

The sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

“On the south will be the divisions of the camp of Reuben under their standard. ¹  The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur.

The border of the tribe of Reuben was the Jordan. The land allotted to the tribe of Reuben by its clans included these cities and their towns. ¹ 

Those of them who were numbered ¹  from the tribe of Reuben were 46,500. ² 

Now these were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;

May Reuben live and not die, and may his people multiply. ¹ 

Moses assigned land to the tribe of Reuben ¹  by its clans.

These were the sons of Israel: ¹  Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah; Issachar and Zebulun;

The sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

¹ These are the heads of their fathers’ households: ²  The sons ³  of Reuben, the firstborn son of Israel, were Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These were the clans ⁴  of Reuben.

The sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, as well as Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

When Reuben heard this, he rescued Joseph ¹  from their hands, ²  saying, ³  “Let’s not take his life!” ⁴ 

Later Reuben returned to the cistern to find that Joseph was not in it! ¹  He tore his clothes,

Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, outstanding in dignity, outstanding in power.

Now these are the names of the men who are to help ¹  you: from ²  Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;

All those numbered of the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, are 151,450. They will travel second.

And these other tribes must stand for the curse on Mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

Then we took their land and gave it as an inheritance to Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh.
