He does not expect ¹  to escape from darkness; ²  he is marked for the sword; ³ 

When he established the heavens, I was there; when he marked out the horizon ¹  over the face of the deep,

when he gave the sea his decree that the waters should not pass over his command, ¹  when he marked out the foundations of the earth,

Joshua left those nations ¹  to test ²  Israel. I wanted to see ³  whether or not the people ⁴  would carefully walk in the path ⁵  marked out by ⁶  the Lord, as their ancestors ⁷  were careful to do.”
