The Lord spoke to Aaron, “See, I have given you the responsibility for my raised offerings; I have given all the holy things of the Israelites to you as your priestly portion 1 and to your sons as a perpetual ordinance.
“See now that I, indeed I, am he!” says the Lord, 1 “and there is no other god besides me. I kill and give life, I smash and I heal, and none can resist 2 my power.
He replied, “My lord the king, my servant deceived me! I 1 said, ‘Let me get my donkey saddled so that I can ride on it and go with the king,’ for I 2 am lame.
I considered these things carefully 1 and then registered a complaint with the wealthy 2 and the officials. I said to them, “Each one of you is seizing the collateral 3 from your own countrymen!” 4 Because of them I called for 5 a great public assembly.
Indeed, 1 it is not an enemy who insults me, or else I could bear it; it is not one who hates me who arrogantly taunts me, 2 or else I could hide from him.
I decided 1 to carefully 2 and thoroughly examine 3 all that has been accomplished on earth. 4 I concluded: 5 God has given people 6 a burdensome task 7 that keeps them 8 occupied. 9
Who knows if he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet 1 he will be master over all the fruit of 2 my labor 3 for which I worked so wisely 4 on earth! 5 This also is futile!
When I bring you out from the nations and gather you from the lands where you are scattered, I will accept you along with your soothing aroma. I will display my holiness among you in the sight of the nations.
Say, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: “‘Look, I am against you, 1 Sidon, and I will magnify myself in your midst. Then they will know that I am the Lord when I execute judgments on her and reveal my sovereign power 2 in her.
Jesus replied, 1 “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come from God and am now here. 2 I 3 have not come on my own initiative, 4 but he 5 sent me.
So they will put my name 1 on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”
But I trust in you, O Lord! I declare, “You are my God!”
