Listen to my instruction ¹  so that you may be wise, ²  and do not neglect it.

For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a well-written song ²  by David. Listen, O God, to my prayer! Do not ignore ³  my appeal for mercy!

When you see ¹  your neighbor’s ²  ox or sheep going astray, do not ignore it; ³  you must return it without fail ⁴  to your neighbor.

When you see ¹  your neighbor’s donkey or ox fallen along the road, do not ignore it; ²  instead, you must be sure ³  to help him get the animal on its feet again. ⁴ 

For the one who takes revenge against murderers took notice of the oppressed; ¹  he did not overlook ²  their cry for help ³ 

The wicked are turned back and sent to Sheol; ¹  this is the destiny of ²  all the nations that ignore ³  God,

Why do you look the other way, ¹  and ignore ²  the way we are oppressed and mistreated? ³ 

The one who heeds instruction ¹  is on the way to ²  life, but the one who rejects ³  rebuke goes astray.

For the music director, a psalm of David. O God whom I praise, do not ignore me! ² 

Rage takes hold of me because of the wicked, those who reject your law.

My zeal ¹  consumes ²  me, for my enemies forget your instructions. ³ 

Let your eyes look directly ¹  in front of you and let your gaze ²  look straight before you.

A fool’s annoyance ¹  is known at once, ²  but the prudent ³  overlooks ⁴  an insult.

If you stop listening to ¹  instruction, my child, you will stray ²  from the words of knowledge.

You shall do the same to his donkey, his clothes, or anything else your neighbor ¹  has lost and you have found; you must not refuse to get involved. ² 

Hear my prayer, O Lord! Listen to my cry for help! Do not ignore my sobbing! ¹  For I am dependent on you, like one residing outside his native land; I am at your mercy, just as all my ancestors were. ² 

God deserves praise, ¹  for ²  he did not reject my prayer or abandon his love for me! ³ 

Do not ignore ¹  your servant, for I am in trouble! Answer me right away! ² 

Do not disregard ¹  what your enemies say, ²  or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you. ³
