A whole generation 1 will serve him; they will tell the next generation about the sovereign Lord. 2
I yearn for the Lord, 1 more than watchmen do for the morning, yes, more than watchmen do for the morning. 2
Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his loyal love endures,
Yet the Lord our God is compassionate and forgiving, 1 even though we have rebelled against him.
After this, he and the men who were with him ate a meal and stayed there overnight. 1 When they got up in the morning, he said, “Let me leave now so I can return to my master.” 2
But he said to them, “Don’t detain me – the Lord 1 has granted me success on my journey. Let me leave now so I may return 2 to my master.”
If one of us has it, 1 he will die, and the rest of us will become my lord’s slaves!”
“So now, please let your servant remain as my lord’s slave instead of the boy. As for the boy, let him go back with his brothers.
Now let this present 1 that your servant has brought to my lord be given to the servants who follow 2 my lord.
A psalm of David. Here is the Lord’s proclamation 2 to my lord: 3 “Sit down at my right hand 4 until I make your enemies your footstool!” 5
Judah replied, “What can we say 1 to my lord? What can we speak? How can we clear ourselves? 2 God has exposed the sin of your servants! 3 We are now my lord’s slaves, we and the one in whose possession the cup was found.”
Your conscience will not be overwhelmed with guilt 1 for having poured out innocent blood and for having taken matters into your own hands. When the Lord has granted my lord success, 2 please remember your servant.”
His servants advised 1 him, “A young virgin must be found for our master, the king, 2 to take care of the king’s needs 3 and serve as his nurse. She can also sleep with you 4 and keep our master, the king, warm.” 5
But that day belongs to the Lord God who rules over all. 1 It is the day when he will pay back his enemies. 2 His sword will devour them until its appetite is satisfied! It will drink their blood until it is full! 3 For the Lord God who rules over all 4 will offer them up as a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River.
Then Abraham 1 said, “May the Lord not be angry 2 so that I may speak! 3 What if thirty are found there?” He replied, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
Finally Abraham 1 said, “May the Lord not be angry so that I may speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He replied, “I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.”
My master’s wife Sarah bore a son to him 1 when she was old, 2 and my master 3 has given him everything he owns.
He commanded them, “This is what you must say to my lord Esau: ‘This is what your servant 1 Jacob says: I have been staying with Laban until now.
I have oxen, donkeys, sheep, and male and female servants. I have sent 1 this message 2 to inform my lord, so that I may find favor in your sight.’”
then you must say, 1 ‘They belong 2 to your servant Jacob. 3 They have been sent as a gift to my lord Esau. 4 In fact Jacob himself is behind us.’” 5
