Yet they challenged and defied 1 the sovereign God, 2 and did not obey 3 his commands. 4
Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds, they failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, and they rebelled at the sea, by the Red Sea. 1
“Nonetheless they grew disobedient and rebelled against you; they disregarded your law. 1 They killed your prophets who had solemnly admonished them in order to cause them to return to you. They committed atrocious blasphemies.
But they rebelled against me, and refused to listen to me; no one got rid of their detestable idols, 1 nor did they abandon the idols of Egypt. Then I decided to pour out 2 my rage on them and fully vent my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
