Those who are eager to do 1 wrong draw near; they are far from your law.
They detest me and maintain their distance; 1 they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
All the relatives 1 of a poor person hate him; 2 how much more do his friends avoid him – he pursues them 3 with words, but they do not respond. 4
This is what the Lord says: “What fault could your ancestors 1 have possibly found in me that they strayed so far from me? 2 They paid allegiance to 3 worthless idols, and so became worthless to me. 4
“‘But the Levites who went far from me, straying off from me after their idols when Israel went astray, will be responsible for 1 their sin.
“Son of man, your brothers, 1 your relatives, 2 and the whole house of Israel, all of them are those to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem 3 have said, ‘They have gone 4 far away from the Lord; to us this land has been given as a possession.’
