So one of the priests whom they had deported from Samaria went back and settled in Bethel. 1 He taught them how to worship 2 the Lord.

But there were not enough priests to skin all the animals, 1 so their brothers, the Levites, helped them until the work was finished and the priests could consecrate themselves. (The Levites had been more conscientious about consecrating themselves than the priests.) 2
Many of the priests, the Levites, and the leaders 1 – older people who had seen with their own eyes the former temple while it was still established 2 – were weeping loudly, 3 and many others raised their voice in a joyous shout.
