Those who are well-fed hire themselves out to earn food, but the hungry no longer lack. Even 1 the barren woman gives birth to seven, 2 but the one with many children withers away. 3
And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness, for there is no bread or water, and we 1 detest this worthless 2 food.”
for they had not met the Israelites with food 1 and water, but instead had hired Balaam to curse them. (Our God, however, turned the curse into blessing.)
So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for their horses, the livestock of their flocks and herds, and their donkeys. 1 He got them through that year by giving them food in exchange for livestock.
