Your enemies roar 1 in the middle of your sanctuary; 2 they set up their battle flags. 3
“If 1 they do not believe you or pay attention to 2 the former sign, then they may 3 believe the latter sign. 4
You should tie them as a reminder on your forearm 1 and fasten them as symbols 2 on your forehead.
These curses 1 will be a perpetual sign and wonder with reference to you and your descendants. 2
Have you never questioned those who travel the roads? Do you not recognize their accounts 1 –
when he performed his awesome deeds 1 in Egypt, and his acts of judgment 2 in the region of Zoan.
They executed his miraculous signs among them, 1 and his amazing deeds in the land of Ham.
He performed awesome deeds 1 and acts of judgment 2 in your midst, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.
Hezekiah said, “What is the confirming sign that I will go up to the Lord’s temple?”
I will place 1 my rainbow 2 in the clouds, and it will become 3 a guarantee of the covenant between me and the earth.
You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskins. This will be a reminder 1 of the covenant between me and you.
You will also take in your hand this staff, with which you will do the signs.” 1
But I will harden 1 Pharaoh’s heart, and although I will multiply 2 my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt,
I will put a division 1 between my people and your people. This sign will take place 2 tomorrow.”’”
And he 1 brought signs and great, devastating wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on his whole family 2 before our very eyes.
Therefore the Lord brought us out of Egypt with tremendous strength and power, 1 as well as with great awe-inspiring signs and wonders.
Your eyes have seen the great judgments, 1 those signs and mighty wonders.
Even those living in the most remote areas are awestruck by your acts; 1 you cause those living in the east and west to praise you. 2
We do not see any signs of God’s presence; 1 there are no longer any prophets 2 and we have no one to tell us how long this will last. 3
Show me evidence of your favor! 1 Then those who hate me will see it and be ashamed, 2 for you, O Lord, will help me and comfort me. 3
