The Lord said to Moses, “Extend your hand over the land of Egypt for 1 the locusts, that they may come up over the land of Egypt and eat everything that grows 2 in the ground, everything that the hail has left.”
They covered 1 the surface 2 of all the ground, so that the ground became dark with them, 3 and they ate all the vegetation of the ground and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Nothing green remained on the trees or on anything that grew in the fields throughout the whole land of Egypt.
The whole land will be covered with brimstone, salt, and burning debris; it will not be planted nor will it sprout or produce grass. It will resemble the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the Lord destroyed in his intense anger. 1
Those survivors from 1 Jacob will live 2 in the midst of many nations. 3 They will be like the dew the Lord sends, like the rain on the grass, that does not hope for men to come or wait around for humans to arrive. 4
