This is what the Lord who rules over all 1 says, “Babylon’s thick wall 2 will be completely demolished. 3 Her high gates will be set on fire. The peoples strive for what does not satisfy. 4 The nations grow weary trying to get what will be destroyed.” 5
I will plant it on a high mountain of Israel, and it will raise branches and produce fruit and become a beautiful cedar. Every bird will live under it; Every winged creature will live in the shade of its branches.
The cedars in the garden of God could not eclipse it, nor could the fir trees 1 match its boughs; the plane trees were as nothing compared to its branches; no tree in the garden of God could rival its beauty.
His power will be great, but it will not be by his strength alone. He will cause terrible destruction. 1 He will be successful in what he undertakes. 2 He will destroy powerful people and the people of the holy ones. 3
I will destroy her vines and fig trees, about which she said, “These are my wages for prostitution 1 that my lovers gave to me!” I will turn her cultivated vines and fig trees 2 into an uncultivated thicket, so that wild animals 3 will devour them.
Look! 1 Even if 2 they flee from the destruction, Egypt will take hold 3 of them, and Memphis will bury them. The weeds will inherit the silver they treasure 4 – thorn bushes will occupy their homes. 5
The sovereign Lord who commands armies will do this. 1 He touches the earth and it dissolves; 2 all who live on it mourn. The whole earth 3 rises like the River Nile, 4 and then grows calm 5 like the Nile in Egypt. 6
“Be sure of this, 1 the time is 2 coming,” says the Lord, “when the plowman will catch up to the reaper 3 and the one who stomps the grapes 4 will overtake 5 the planter. 6 Juice will run down the slopes, 7 it will flow down all the hillsides. 8
I will bring back my people, Israel; 1 they will rebuild the cities lying in rubble 2 and settle down. 3 They will plant vineyards and drink the wine they produce; 4 they will grow orchards 5 and eat the fruit they produce. 6
Therefore night will fall, and you will receive no visions; 1 it will grow dark, and you will no longer be able to read the omens. 2 The sun will set on these prophets, and the daylight will turn to darkness over their heads. 3
Moreover, I have called for a drought that will affect the fields, the hill country, the grain, new wine, fresh olive oil, and everything that grows from the ground; it also will harm people, animals, and everything they produce.’” 1

For though you may have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, because I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
So here is my opinion on this matter: It is to your advantage, since you 1 made a good start last year both in your giving and your desire to give,
See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter root springing up 1 and causing trouble, and through him many become defiled.
