I am numb with pain and severely battered; ¹  I groan loudly because of the anxiety I feel. ² 

The Lord supports ¹  him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. ² 

During the evening, morning, and noontime I will lament and moan, ¹  and he will hear ²  me. ³ 

I said, “I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me.” ¹  (Selah)

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him ¹  in the desert!

So he used suffering to humble them; ¹  they stumbled and no one helped them up.

I told you about my ways ¹  and you answered me. Teach me your statutes!

O Lord, do I not hate those who hate you, and despise those who oppose you? ¹ 

See if there is any idolatrous tendency ¹  in me, and lead me in the reliable ancient path! ² 

And at the end of your life ¹  you will groan ²  when your flesh and your body are wasted away. ³ 

The one who winks ¹  his ²  eye causes ³  trouble, and the one who speaks foolishness ⁴  will come to ruin.

The heart knows its own bitterness, ¹  and with its joy no one else ²  can share. ³ 

The one who is greedy for gain ¹  troubles ²  his household, ³  but whoever hates bribes ⁴  will live.

The one who guards his mouth and his tongue ¹  keeps his life ²  from troubles. ³ 

When the righteous become numerous, ¹  the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan. ² 

So I began to despair ¹  about all the fruit of ²  my labor ³  for which I worked so hard ⁴  on earth. ⁵ 

Wail, for the Lord’s day of judgment ¹  is near; it comes with all the destructive power of the sovereign judge. ² 

In their streets they wear sackcloth; on their roofs and in their town squares all of them wail, they fall down weeping.

The fishermen will mourn and lament, all those who cast a fishhook into the river, and those who spread out a net on the water’s surface will grieve. ¹ 

The new wine dries up, the vines shrivel up, all those who like to celebrate ¹  groan.
