Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test! 1
But if we examined ourselves, we would not be judged.
For we would not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who recommend themselves. But when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding. 1
For we do not proclaim 1 ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves 2 for Jesus’ sake.
Then 1 he took a cup, 2 and after giving thanks he said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves.
Because they are callous, they have given themselves over to indecency for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 1
But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.
Above all keep 1 your love for one another fervent, 2 because love covers a multitude of sins. 3
Watch out, so that you do not lose the things we have worked for, 1 but receive a full reward. 2
They kept this statement to themselves, discussing what this rising from the dead meant.
They discussed with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’
But some who were present indignantly said to one another, “Why this waste of expensive 1 ointment?
However, the Pharisees 1 and the experts in religious law 2 rejected God’s purpose 3 for themselves, because they had not been baptized 4 by John. 5 ) 6
that you abstain from meat that has been sacrificed to idols 1 and from blood and from what has been strangled 2 and from sexual immorality. 3 If you keep yourselves from doing these things, 4 you will do well. Farewell. 5
So you too consider yourselves 1 dead to sin, but 2 alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? We don’t need letters of recommendation to you or from you as some other people do, do we? 1
But as God’s servants, 1 we have commended ourselves in every way, 2 with great endurance, in persecutions, 3 in difficulties, in distresses,
And they did this not just as we had hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
It was not because we do not have that right, but to give ourselves as an example for you to imitate. 1
Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another 1 as good stewards of the varied grace of God.
