“The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eye is healthy, 1 your whole body will be full of light.
adultery, greed, evil, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, pride, and folly.
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, 1 your whole body is full of light, but when it is diseased, 2 your body is full of darkness.
If the whole body were an eye, what part would do the hearing? If the whole were an ear, what part would exercise the sense of smell?
Am I not 1 permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ 2
And if the ear says, “Since I am not an eye, I am not part of the body,” it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.
But if your eye is diseased, 1 your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than to have 1 two eyes and be thrown into fiery hell. 2
If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! 1 It is better to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have 2 two eyes and be thrown into hell,
But just as it is written, “Things that no eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, 1 are the things God has prepared for those who love him.” 2
The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you,” nor in turn can the head say to the foot, “I do not need you.”
(Look! He is returning with the clouds, 1 and every eye will see him, even 2 those who pierced him, 3 and all the tribes 4 on the earth will mourn because 5 of him. This will certainly come to pass! 6 Amen.) 7
If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into hell. 1
