But you, ¹  brothers and sisters, ²  are children of the promise like Isaac.

Abraham was the father ¹  of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, ¹  the son of Nahor,

nor are all the children Abraham’s true descendants; rather “through Isaac will your descendants be counted.” ¹ 

Not only that, but when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, ¹  our ancestor Isaac –

God had told him, “Through Isaac descendants will carry on your name,” ¹ 

By faith also Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning the future.

Then God ¹  gave Abraham ²  the covenant ³  of circumcision, and so he became the father of Isaac and circumcised him when he was eight days old, ⁴  and Isaac became the father of ⁵  Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs. ⁶ 

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac. He had received the promises, ¹  yet he was ready to offer up ²  his only son.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?

I tell you, many will come from the east and west to share the banquet ¹  with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob ²  in the kingdom of heaven,

‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? ¹  He is not the God of the dead but of the living!” ² 

But even Moses revealed that the dead are raised ¹  in the passage about the bush, ²  where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. ³ 

‘I am the God of your forefathers, ¹  the God of Abraham, Isaac, ²  and Jacob.’ ³  Moses began to tremble and did not dare to look more closely. ⁴ 

By faith he lived as a foreigner ¹  in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs ²  of the same promise.

Now as for the dead being raised, ¹  have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, ²  how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the ³  God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? ⁴ 

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth ¹  when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, ²  and all the prophets in the kingdom of God ³  but you yourselves thrown out. ⁴ 

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, ¹  the God of our forefathers, ²  has glorified ³  his servant ⁴  Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected ⁵  in the presence of Pilate after he had decided ⁶  to release him.
