He said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
“But woe to you, experts in the law 1 and you Pharisees, hypocrites! 2 You keep locking people out of the kingdom of heaven! 3 For you neither enter nor permit those trying to enter to go in. 4
But as the man 1 went out he began to announce it publicly and spread the story widely, so that Jesus 2 was no longer able to enter any town openly but stayed outside in remote places. Still 3 they kept coming 4 to him from everywhere.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life crippled than to have 1 two hands and go into hell, 2 to the unquenchable fire. 3
If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better to enter life lame than to have 1 two feet and be thrown into hell. 2
If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! 1 It is better to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have 2 two eyes and be thrown into hell,
The disciples were astonished at these words. But again Jesus said to them, 1 “Children, how hard it is 2 to enter the kingdom of God!
On 1 another Sabbath, Jesus 2 entered the synagogue 3 and was teaching. Now 4 a man was there whose right hand was withered. 5
Then 1 a man named Jairus, who was a ruler 2 of the synagogue, 3 came up. Falling 4 at Jesus’ feet, he pleaded 5 with him to come to his house,
Now when he came to the house, Jesus 1 did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, 2 and James, and the child’s father and mother.
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb and be born a second time, can he?” 1
Jesus answered, “I tell you the solemn truth, 1 unless a person is born of water and spirit, 2 he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
and the temple was filled with smoke from God’s glory and from his power. Thus 1 no one could enter the temple until the seven plagues from the seven angels were completed.
If 1 your hand or your foot causes you to sin, 2 cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than to have 3 two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.
