(Now there were about twelve men in all.) ¹ 

Not counting women and children, there were about five thousand men who ate.

Not counting children and women, ¹  there were four thousand men who ate. ² 

Now ¹  there were five thousand men ²  who ate the bread. ³ 

Then ¹  two men, Moses and Elijah, ²  began talking with him. ³ 

Now ¹  the men who were holding Jesus ²  under guard began to mock him and beat him.

Some ¹  devout men buried Stephen and made loud lamentation ²  over him. ³ 

“Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense ¹  that I now ²  make to you.”

Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.

Deacons must be husbands of one wife ¹  and good managers of their children and their own households.

(Now about five thousand men ¹  were there.) ²  Then ³  he said to his disciples, “Have ⁴  them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”

As ¹  he was entering ²  a village, ten men with leprosy ³  met him. They ⁴  stood at a distance,

Now there were devout Jews ¹  from every nation under heaven residing in Jerusalem. ² 

Then he said to the council, ¹  “Men of Israel, ²  pay close attention to ³  what you are about to do to these men.

(Now the men ¹  who were traveling with him stood there speechless, ²  because they heard the voice but saw no one.) ³ 

While Peter was still thinking seriously about ¹  the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Look! Three men are looking for you.

Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through this one ¹  forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

After they stopped speaking, ¹  James replied, ²  “Brothers, listen to me.

Even from among your own group ¹  men ²  will arise, teaching perversions of the truth ³  to draw the disciples away after them.

So do what ¹  we tell you: We have four men ²  who have taken ³  a vow; ⁴
