For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason for boasting, because I am compelled to do this. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

“Bring them here to me,” he replied.

Jesus ¹  said to another, “Follow me.” But he replied, ²  “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

“All things are lawful for me” ¹  – but not everything is beneficial. “All things are lawful for me” – but I will not be controlled by anything.

I have great confidence in you; I take great pride ¹  on your behalf. I am filled with encouragement; ²  I am overflowing with joy in the midst of ³  all our suffering.

And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worship ¹  me.”

But she came and bowed down ¹  before him and said, ²  “Lord, help me!”

Show me the coin used for the tax.” So ¹  they brought him a denarius. ² 

and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.” ¹ 

John’s baptism – was it from heaven or from people? ¹  Answer me.”

And who am I ¹  that the mother of my Lord should come and visit me?

because he who is mighty ¹  has done great things for me, and holy is his name;

Thus ¹  I grant ²  to you a kingdom, ³  just as my Father granted to me,

But because I am telling you ¹  the truth, you do not believe me.

If I do not perform ¹  the deeds ²  of my Father, do not believe me.

Now they understand ¹  that everything ²  you have given me comes from you,

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of joy with your presence.’ ¹ 

I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Get up, Peter; slaughter ¹  and eat!’

and I died. So ¹  I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life brought death! ² 

I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. ¹
