because you are attaining the goal of your faith – the salvation of your souls.

For the one who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, ¹  and there are no exceptions. ² 

And these all were commended ¹  for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. ² 

Then ¹  when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that never fades away.

because you know that each person, whether slave or free, if he does something good, this ¹  will be rewarded by the Lord.

For you need endurance in order to do God’s will and so receive what is promised. ¹ 

and he reasoned ¹  that God could even raise him from the dead, and in a sense ²  he received him back from there.

Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, ¹  and on my return I would have received my money back with interest! ² 

Then ¹  when a woman of that town, who was a sinner, learned that Jesus ²  was dining ³  at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar ⁴  of perfumed oil. ⁵ 

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, ¹  so that each one may be paid back according to what he has done while in the body, whether good or evil. ² 

These all died in faith without receiving the things promised, ¹  but they saw them in the distance and welcomed them and acknowledged that they were strangers and foreigners ²  on the earth.
