because you know that each person, whether slave or free, if he does something good, this 1 will be rewarded by the Lord.
Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show his works done in the gentleness that wisdom brings. 1
For the one who wants to love life and see good days must keep 1 his tongue from evil and his lips from uttering deceit.
But in the same way every faithful promise the Lord your God made to you has been realized, 1 it is just as certain, if you disobey, that the Lord will bring on you every judgment 2 until he destroys you from this good land which the Lord your God gave you.
They captured fortified cities and fertile land. They took possession of houses full of all sorts of good things – wells previously dug, vineyards, olive trees, and fruit trees in abundance. They ate until they were full 1 and grew fat. They enjoyed to the full your great goodness.
Everyone shares the same fate 1 – the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, 2 the ceremonially clean and unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. What happens to the good person, also happens to the sinner; 3 what happens to those who make vows, also happens to those who are afraid to make vows.
Then the Lord said to me, “Do not pray for good to come to these people! 1
God called the dry ground “land” 1 and the gathered waters he called “seas.” God saw that it was good.
God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the cattle according to their kinds, and all the creatures that creep along the ground according to their kinds. God saw that it was good.
God saw all that he had made – and it was very good! 1 There was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day.
And if you come with us, it is certain 1 that whatever good things the Lord will favor us with, we will share with you as well.”
They said to the whole community of the Israelites, “The land we passed through to investigate is an exceedingly 1 good land.
“Not a single person 1 of this evil generation will see the good land that I promised to give to your ancestors!
For the Lord your God is bringing you to a good land, a land of brooks, 1 springs, and fountains flowing forth in valleys and hills,
You will eat your fill and then praise the Lord your God because of the good land he has given you.
