Then when Paul noticed 1 that part of them were Sadducees 2 and the others Pharisees, 3 he shouted out in the council, 4 “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. I am on trial concerning the hope of the resurrection 5 of the dead!”
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who calls himself a Christian 1 who is sexually immoral, or greedy, or an idolater, or verbally abusive, 2 or a drunkard, or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.
What should you do then, brothers and sisters? 1 When you come together, each one has a song, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all these things be done for the strengthening of the church.
So then, let no one treat him with contempt. But send him on his way in peace so that he may come to me. For I am expecting him with the brothers. 1
For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, 1 regarding the affliction that happened to us in the province of Asia, 2 that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of living.
because I know your eagerness to help. 1 I keep boasting to the Macedonians about this eagerness of yours, 2 that Achaia has been ready to give 3 since last year, and your zeal to participate 4 has stirred up most of them. 5
When 1 I was with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia fully supplied my needs. 2 I 3 kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so.
and when James, Cephas, 1 and John, who had a reputation as 2 pillars, 3 recognized 4 the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me 5 the right hand of fellowship, agreeing 6 that we would go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 7
For you recall, brothers and sisters, 1 our toil and drudgery: By working night and day so as not to impose a burden on any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.
For you became imitators, brothers and sisters, 1 of God’s churches in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, because you too suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they in fact did from the Jews,
But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters 1 loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning 2 for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
