So Jesus answered them, 1 “I tell you the solemn truth, 2 the Son can do nothing on his own initiative, 3 but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father 4 does, the Son does likewise. 5
For see what this very thing, this sadness 1 as God intended, has produced in you: what eagerness, what defense of yourselves, 2 what indignation, 3 what alarm, what longing, what deep concern, 4 what punishment! 5 In everything you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
They replied, 1 “A man came up to meet us. He told us, “Go back to the king who sent you and tell him, ‘This is what the Lord says: “You must think there is no God in Israel! That explains why you are sending for an oracle from Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron. 2 Therefore you will not leave the bed you lie on, for you will certainly die.”’”
