So Saul feared David, because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul.

So Samuel followed Saul back, and Saul worshiped the Lord.

Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to look for Saul,

He ¹  fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, ²  why are you persecuting me?” ³ 

Then I ¹  fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

Now David was the youngest. While the three oldest sons followed Saul,

Then Samuel went to Ramah, while Saul went up to his home in Gibeah of Saul.

Now Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David. When they told Saul about this, it ¹  pleased him.

Saul became even more afraid of him. ¹  Saul continued to be at odds with David from then on. ² 

Now Abner son of Ner, the general in command of Saul’s army, had taken Saul’s son Ish-bosheth ¹  and had brought him to Mahanaim.

When David’s words were overheard and reported to Saul, he called for him. ¹ 

The name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the general in command of his army was Abner son of Ner, Saul’s uncle. ¹ 

From Benjamin, Saul’s tribe, ¹  there were 3,000, most of whom, up to that time, had been loyal to Saul. ² 

On every mission on which Saul sent him, David achieved success. So Saul appointed him over the men of war. This pleased not only all the army, but also Saul’s servants. ¹ 

When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out loudly. ¹  The woman said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!”

Ner was the father of Kish, and Kish was the father of Saul. Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal. ¹ 

Saul accepted Jonathan’s advice ¹  and took an oath, “As surely as the Lord lives, he will not be put to death.”

David was going back and forth ¹  from Saul in order to care for his father’s sheep in Bethlehem.

David came to Saul and stood before him. Saul liked him a great deal, ¹  and he became his armor bearer.

When it was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they prophesied too. So Saul sent messengers a third time, but they also prophesied.
