For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.
And so he is the mediator 1 of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, 2 since he died 3 to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.
And the tongue is a fire! The tongue represents 1 the world of wrongdoing among the parts of our bodies. It 2 pollutes the entire body and sets fire to the course of human existence – and is set on fire by hell. 3
So be patient, brothers and sisters, 1 until the Lord’s return. 2 Think of how the farmer waits 3 for the precious fruit of the ground and is patient 4 for it until it receives the early and late rains.
And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one’s work, live out the time of your temporary residence here 1 in reverence.
Now I desire to remind you (even though you have been fully informed of these facts 1 once for all 2 ) that Jesus, 3 having saved the 4 people out of the land of Egypt, later 5 destroyed those who did not believe.
(Look! He is returning with the clouds, 1 and every eye will see him, even 2 those who pierced him, 3 and all the tribes 4 on the earth will mourn because 5 of him. This will certainly come to pass! 6 Amen.) 7
Therefore, remember from what high state 1 you have fallen and repent! Do 2 the deeds you did at the first; 3 if not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place – that is, if you do not repent. 4
“To 1 the angel of the church in Philadelphia write the following: 2 “This is the solemn pronouncement of 3 the Holy One, the True One, who holds the key of David, who opens doors 4 no one can shut, and shuts doors 5 no one can open:
the twenty-four elders throw themselves to the ground 1 before the one who sits on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever, and they offer their crowns 2 before his 3 throne, saying:
Another 1 angel holding 2 a golden censer 3 came and was stationed 4 at the altar. A 5 large amount of incense was given to him to offer up, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar that is before the throne.
and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No 1 one was able to learn the song except the one hundred and forty-four thousand who had been redeemed from the earth.
